this section has some general questions and answers with the author about the girl in room 105, the latest book. there are other sections with questions and answers about the books. for those sections: go to questions and answers about fps, [email protected], 3 errors, 2 states, revolution 2020, half girlfriend, an indian girl

what is the girl in room 105 about?

The Girl in Room 105 is about a guy’s search to stop loving his ex-girlfriend and find meaning in his otherwise mundane life.

what does the book hope to achieve?

He hopes to discuss the importance of “not loving”, something that is probably as important as loving someone. sometimes we just have to learn to let go, move on and find meaning in life. He also hopes to shed light on contemporary India, be it the Kashmiri problem, the prejudices Indians have, or the state of the Indian media.

why did you write this book?

I have written several books, many of which have been love stories. I don’t think enough has been written about the dark side of love, the stage where love ends, and how difficult it can be to move on. I wanted to write about this, but in a fun way.

I also felt the need to do something different in terms of genre, both for myself and for my readers.

The Girl in Room 105 is my attempt at some kind of suspense genre, though it’s hard to put my books into one category. I wanted to make a gripping, fast-moving, humorous thriller, and the girl in 105 hopes to meet all those requirements.

Have you had that ‘heartbreak’ too?

Is there anyone in this world who hasn’t had to do that? when love ends, a residue remains in us. sometimes we can be angry with the other person, even hate them. all of this continues to show connection and involvement on an emotional level. As they say, the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. Getting to that stage of indifference takes a long time and that’s when the ‘heartbreak’ happens. so yeah, i’ve also had my share of heartbreak and lack of closure, and that may have inspired keshav’s love for zara in the girl in room 105.

what is cashmere’s angle in the story? is it a paisley book?

The cashmere issue is complex and something our country has faced since independence. Although I have researched and written several columns on cashmere, I am by no means an expert on cashmere. therefore, I have not attempted to solve the cashmere problem nor do I claim to have understood it better than others.

However, I think Indian youth in general are not very aware of what is happening in Kashmir and what life is like for ordinary people living there. we only see breaking news about some incident, or some complex expert tackles it. I felt that putting the story in the context of that state could show people current cashmere and maybe raise awareness of the issues.

so the girl in room 105 is not a paisley book in that sense. is a book set in paisley, and paisley is an important part of it.

what is your opinion on the topic of paisley?

As I said in the previous question, I can’t claim to be an expert on cashmere nor do I have all the solutions. I think the situation is complex, and all parties are doing some things right and some things wrong. and while that doesn’t help solve a problem, I think what needs to happen is a lot more communication from both sides. we need to bring Kashmiri into the mainstream and in particular talk to the youth there and figure out the best way forward.

How is writing a thriller different from writing a love story?

there is a lot of difference. Although all of my books are fast-paced and action-oriented, in a thriller, things have to move even faster. In addition, everything has to be very precise, each moment has to add up and make sense. In a way, with a thriller, every reader becomes an editor, and we have to be very careful in the editing process to make sure everything fits together perfectly.

The climax of thrillers is also very important: it has to have the right amount of tension and surprise for the reader. doing all this was so much fun in the girl in room 105.

keshav is Hindu. zara muslim Is there also a Hindu-Muslim angle in the book?

I don’t want to give too much away, but all I would say is yes, there may be something, but not as you’d expect. for more, read the book
