If you”re an English major, the odds are you are going to have to buy this book. For a collection of short stories, plays, and poems (that many other college textbooks also contain) you could do a lot worse. The collection has the standards. stuff everyone should read as well as stuff you may want to avoid. But it also contains some gems that you may not even heard of. The book guides you through the process of analyzing the works in more of a reader response way, but it also gives brief sections on the different forms of literary criticism. The pages are really thin so they could easily take a beating if not handle with care, but most books are that way these days. The textbook is good enough to keep after you finish the class so it has that going for it. Overall the makers did a good job.
