Down With Love: Romance-Free Y.A. Books – The Hub

Even though teens are being bombarded with tons of hormones, that doesn’t mean they want a romantic barrage in their book choices. there have been a lot of teenagers that cross my path asking for a y.a. no romance. books. however, they always feel the need to defend their decision for some reason: they are not ready, because of culture, religion, or they just don’t like it.

Just like with teenagers who ask for books full of romance, I don’t judge teenagers who want books without romance. it’s just another subgenre of books. the only problem is that “no romance” isn’t really a classifiable genre in book searches (although romance is unfair). To make things easy for you, here are my quick picks for those who want to avoid anything sugary.

Fair warning, this book can be very confusing and hard to follow at first. however, please know that this confusion is entirely intentional. The story follows Caden Bosch. he is a genius level high school student on a ship headed to the deepest point on earth (challenger deep). While Caden is the resident artist tasked with documenting the journey, he faces many more challenges. this book is more of an individual character study. pays more attention to caden than anyone else, especially if he’s not a love interest.

A young boy is abandoned in a graveyard only to be adopted by the supernatural creatures that live there. This book led to Gaiman’s first Newbery Award (since he officially became a US citizen by writing it). the real story begins once the little boy (bod) grows up and begins to think about life outside the graveyard. however, the man who killed bod’s family is waiting for him somewhere. this selection is ideal for younger teens or older teens who need an up and down despite their age.

Full of suspense and featuring Stroud’s unique brand of humor, this book will please anyone. is especially good for those looking for stories without romance.

Sometimes the teen in question doesn’t necessarily want a totally romance-free book. instead, they want to relax into some romantic subplots or just get comfortable with the idea of ​​romance happening in the larger story.
