Do you like to write intriguing, suspenseful and fascinating? if so, mollie cox bryan is your woman. she is not just any woman but a writer of women’s stories. This bestselling author has stories from many forms of writing, from cookbooks, amazing articles, riveting essays, stunning poetry, and phenomenal fiction. however, she was not always so busy. Mollie grew up in a town outside of Pittsburgh, Pa., and went to Point Park College after graduating from high school. here, she got a b.a. in journalism and communication. Mollie’s first real job out of college was as a paste-up artist working for a small local newspaper, where she was allowed to write “whenever convenient” and that’s what she did.
Mollie later moved to Washington, D.C. area. In this new city, she was able to hold down a series of writing jobs and began writing on a diverse collection of topics, including life insurance, math education, and construction. Despite working in publishing, Mollie began taking some poetry courses at the Writers Center in Bethesda, MD. It wasn’t long before she was in charge of the local poetry seminars and was chosen to participate in Jenny McKean Moore’s prized poetry practice.
In 1999, she gave birth to her first daughter, Emma, and before long, Mollie and her husband packed up and moved to the Shenandoah Valley, VA. (waynesboro), where she found employment at the frontier culture exhibit hall and chose to be a stay-at-home mom to care for emma and start her freelance career.
mollie’s idea to write actually came to her when she started going to a lot of scrapbooking parties and was impressed by the generosity and quick turnarounds of other scrapbookers. at that point, she mollie mentioned that she had time to commit like the women in her books do; however, she always believed that she would be cool if she went after him. at the same time she reads “the secret life of bees” and is captivated by it. After that, Ella Mollie wanted to write a story like that that involved the power of women’s relationships. Ella Mollie also wanted to take a look at the darker side of it: what loneliness and secrets can do to people. once in a national novel writing month contest not long after that, she decided to get her feet wet and the rest is history.

mollie has always been inspired to write cookbooks. when he remembered his childhood writing, it was always about poetry and fiction. However, life came and she wanted to make a living, so Ella Mollie worked as an editor and non-fiction writer. It has continually been a dream of his to have a novel printed. mollie wrote two “mrs. rowe’s cookbooks. one of them is called “mrs. rowe’s little book on the southern pie. and “mrs. The Rowe’s Restaurant Cookbook: A Lifetime of Shenandoah Valley Recipes”. Mrs. rowe, her story and her food have been part of her family for many years. each book combines more than 65 recipes.
He wrote countless incomplete novels over the years and completes it in high school. Mollie thinks there are a lot of writers like her who would like to cross over. and all of her writing is about a story, regardless of whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. The Cumberland Creek Mysteries was one of her first novels. In the book, the main character, Annie, can’t help but think that something is missing in her life. however, she finds solace in a local scrapbooking circle mixed with shy husbands, persistent children, and sporadic fantasies of her former single lives. And when the silent nirvana of her small town is devastated by the suicide of a young mother, they team up to find out and see what went wrong.
another book in the series was called scrapped, which was the second part of the cumberland creek mystery. Here, the scrapbooking vintage ladies of Cumberland Creek are greeting a strange newbie in their group. However, she is a self-proclaimed sorceress, cookie crandall is able to whip up a lavish vegan meal and rave about the characters and moon segments with equal confidence. She quickly befriends fellow scrapbookers of hers, as well as freelance journalist Annie, with whom she shares shallow roots in a family tree founded community.
when asked, why does food feature so prominently in your novels? the humble answer she gave was that it is almost impossible to write about a group of southern women without including and talking about food in the stories. Mollie thinks that the slightly more complex answer is food and that it’s kind of a big symbol of life and the stories that structure a life are regularly interrupted by food. So Mollie believes that using food in a story is what tells the reader a lot about the setting and the characters.
when asked if writing fiction has been different from nonfiction, mollie mentioned that in some ways it was and in others it wasn’t. With the cookbooks, for example, she mentions that there was a lot of organization between the restaurant, the taster and herself in the invention of the books that she wrote. Mollie believes that when it comes to writing fiction, it’s just her who finds it to be somewhat liberating and altogether a little terrifying. When writing fiction and non-fiction, Mollie mentions that you just have to sit down in front of the computer and do it right away. in this sense, she believes that her nonfiction writing habits affect her fiction. Ella Mollie is extremely practical in her writing and she doesn’t wait for the muse to show up.
at the end of the day, mollie is just like any other person who enjoys the things normal people do. she’s a huge fan of sherlock holmes, and sir arthur conan doyle is someone she loves to read about. Right now, she is reading her second Louise Penny novel.
