Two decades earlier, his younger sister Sarah, who was 18, disappeared without a trace after the two entered a shooting range competition.

while tracy left to have dinner with her love, sarah drove home in the rain and was never seen again. The two sisters had been great friends and Tracy has never moved on nor has she forgiven herself for letting her younger sister drive home alone in the rain.

Twenty years later, the pain of losing her sister without a goodbye still haunts her and has resulted in Tracy giving up her professional job as a teacher to become a homicide detective. A previously convicted rapist, Edmund House, was arrested and charged with Sarah’s murder, primarily on the basis of circumstantial evidence and also evidence provided by the local bailiff who confessed that Edmund had confessed to murdering Sarah, even though there were no witnesses. or backup recording of the bailiff’s allegations.

tracy crosswhite is a very engaging heroine and the main story is so fast paced that it’s almost impossible to put the book down once you start. Tracy changes careers from a simple chemistry teacher to a homicide detective.

His experimental foreknowledge leaves an unsettling feeling about how the police handled the murder case. Even though Edmund was convicted of the murder, Tracy’s instincts tell her something isn’t right. she is convinced that there was foul play and more than meets the eye.

the memory of all this is killing his mind, soul and heart and the only path that leads to peace is to walk down memory lane once more. Robert Dugoni creates her protagonist as a no-nonsense, witty analytical reasoning heroine. and there is a bonus to the story.

The author knows every route around a courtroom and the dialogue in the story reflects just that. he walks further into the corner untapped and hidden in the shadows. the cast of him is beautifully developed. there are tons of deep emotions that don’t leave sticky traces.

He also shares a conversation he had with Kristin Hannah and several other people who shared their lives with him. There is a lot going on in this novel from the first page to the last.
