simon brett is a prolific British mystery & police thrillers, children’s and humorous writings. He is the author of crime novels and series, playwright of plays and writer of television and radio productions.
He is best known for his Mrs. pargeter, his much loved fethering series and the charles paris detective crime series revolving around a crime detective who sets out to solve many crimes in the city but faces many challenges on the job.

early years and schooling
Simon was born to a father who was a Chartered Surveyor and a mother who was a teacher in Worcester Park, UK, on October 28, 1945.
simon began his educational journey at beacon school in banstead, where his mother was a teacher. She later joined Homefield, a boys’ preparatory school in Sutton. she took an eleven plus exam instead of the popular common entrance. luckily she got a direct scholarship to dulwich university. It is at Dulwich that young Simon became interested in the dramatic and acted in the roles of Richard II and Prospero.

simon would later in 1963 move from dulwich to wadham college on a major scholarship in history which he would then leave to study english. He then passed with First Class Honors in English in 1967. Simon spent much of his university time doing plays and in his final year, he was the President of the Oxford University Dramatic Society. In addition to acting, Simon wrote and directed magazines. In 1966 and 1967, he was part of the Oxford Night Show Crew on the fringes of the Edinburgh Festival. It was in 1967 that he directed a captivating show that gained the interest of the BBC and earned him an enviable position as a trainee light entertainment producer. this started his career in television and radio productions.
writing career
As a trainee, he produced music shows, sketch shows, panel games, anthologies, and light drama. He was also supposed to manage the BBC machinery while he was at work. It was during this job that he came up with the idea of doing crime fiction. He wrote about a detective actor and his manuscript was taken up, so his novel by Charles Paris, issued in order of appearance, was published in 1975.
At BBC, Simon Brett is best remembered for producing the pilot episode of Douglas Adams’ comedy-drama The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. However, he didn’t stick around until the very last episodes ended, as he moved on to London Weekend Television to perform similar duties. He is also known for the production “Frank Muir Going Into” on the BBC.
Work in London over the weekend was not very hectic. it didn’t last long on London weekend television because he had already begun to feel that writing for him might pay him and so he stopped doing an eight to five job. Before leaving television, she produced shows like Maggie and Her, End of Part One, and the Take It From Here glums.
currently, in addition to his novels, series and television productions, simon brett writes for the stage. his always humorous skits, silhouettes, and in-game kills are usually produced by amdrams. Five of his many pantomimes have already been performed at the Chipping Norton Theatre. he also has a habit of writing a play for the arundel festival.
Simon has been in multiple writers organizations over the years including the Crime Writers Association and the Pending Law Advisory Pattern where he was President. Other organizations he has been a part of include the Society of Authors, the West Sussex Writers Club and the Chichester Literary Society. he became president of the detection club in 2001.

Simon is popular for his Mrs Pargeter novels, the Fethering series, and the Charles Paris Detective series. He is also the author of novels such as A Shock to the System (1984), Dead Romantic (1985), The Three Detectives, and The Missing Superstar (1986) among many others. his list of nonfiction material includes: Baby Advice for Grandparents (2005), On Doubts (2006), Baby Advice for Dads (2007), and Baby Advice for Moms (2007). is a detective series that revolves around death and comedy. Marius Steen, a theater mogul is assassinated. bill sweet, a shady blackmailer is also murdered. All these crimes await Charles Paris, a rather confused character who turns from women to alcohol to solve them. he finds himself in puzzle after puzzle with him even finding himself in bed with the blackmailer’s wife. cast, in order of appearance was just the base novel in a long series of detectives by charles paris.
family ties
simon brett is married to lucy and they both have three children, he met lucy at bbc when he was still working there. Lucy was a studio manager on many shows that Simon Brett was working on. His children are Sophie (1974), Alastair (1977), and Jack (1981). They also have two grandchildren from Sophie and her husband Jeremy.
other hobbies
when simon isn’t writing, he’s most likely reading, going to the plays, or doing the times crossword puzzle. He also loves to play tennis at the Petworth House court.
