Thriller and mystery novelist, American author Thomas Perry has been writing successfully for many years. not only a novelist, but also a television writer, he has enjoyed a wide and varied career over the years.
early years and personal life
Born in Tonawanda, New York, in 1947, Thomas Perry always had a keen interest in literature and the written word. Attending Cornell University, he earned his B.A. in 1969 before earning a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in 1974. Having held a wide variety of jobs ranging from laborer, maintenance man, university administrator, teacher, and even commercial fisherman, as well as a gun mechanic, he really has and has seen it all. It is with this wealth of experience that he has honed his craft and created the successful writing career that he still enjoys to this day.

writing his first novel in 1982, thomas perry presented his debut in the form of ‘the butcher’s boy’ to great acclaim. He followed up with ‘Metzger’s Dog’ in 1983 and ‘Big Fish’ in 1985. It was from here that his fate was sealed and he became a critically and commercially successful author as his popularity began to decline. grow from strength to strength. With more than four series as well, he has successfully built a set of ongoing franchises that also garner a huge amount of recognition. the first began with his first novel and was part of a total of three novels for the ‘butcher’s boy’ series, with ‘sleeping dogs’ and ‘the informant’ as his other two that were published over ten and twenty years later.
He also produced a number of other novels and series with a host of different paths he explored during his literary career. with his work on television as well, he has gained a visual style that is unique in his idiosyncratic approach. The focus on suspense and intrigue in his novels has been really helped by his work on shows like ’21 Jump Street’ which have given his material a vibrancy that it otherwise wouldn’t have had. this is also shown with readers appreciating his approach and his theme.
Winning an Edgar Award in 1983 for his debut, he’s also been met with critical acclaim. Received from the “Mystery Writers of America” for its initial release, it was to mark his first foray into the world of literature. he later also got a ‘gumshoe award’ in 2002, and continues to write successfully to this day.

Thomas Perry’s first novel, it was originally published in 1982 and received the 1983 ‘edgar award’ for ‘best first mystery novel’ the following year. Reprinted several times, it was to be the novel that would secure his position as one of America’s top-rated thrillers, defining much of his career to date, along with two other sequels in the ‘Butcher’s’ series. boy’. In what was to be the beginning of the ‘Jane Whitfield’ series of novels, Thomas Perry initially released this book on January 1, 1995. Starring protagonist Jane Whitfield, it charts her single woman business specializing in in helping people ‘disappear’ when they are in trouble. Usually this problem is someone wants them dead and leaves them in the dark with no one else to help them. getting them out of harm’s way, it effectively creates a “disappearing act” in which the client hides.
With her experience as a Native American, she uses the skills gained from her heritage to cover the trail of clients and ensure their safety so that no pursuer can hope to follow them. creating new identities along the way, it fools whoever is tracking them into thinking they are gone. good at her job, one day she is faced with a challenge that may push her abilities to the limit, putting her life at risk in the process. Returning home one day, she finds an intruder who wants to use her abilities to disappear as her friend before him. however, this soon turns out to be a trap and she quickly realizes that she will have to use everything she has to escape this danger. Will she be able to escape in time and lose the threat on her life? Is she willing to undertake this challenge that is presented to her? what will become of her and will she have to manage one last disappearing act?
