When it comes to reading young children’s books, it can be a bit frustrating. Most of the time, your little ones don’t have the attention span to read an entire book. But don’t worry, we’ve put together a list of our favorite but attention-getting short household books for 18-month-olds that they (and you!) will want to read again and again.

dinosaurs to go
dinos to go is a great book in all respects. It consists of 7 stories in a very durable hardcover book. Sandra Boynton has this amazing ability to write children’s stories that get parents talking and singing silly things, which makes kids laugh and really care. Your little one will love Zoomer and even Dozy and will ask you to read it every day! There are a couple more Sandra Boynton toddler books further down the list; stay tuned.

cuckoo at bedtime
The bedtime hide-and-seek is a favorite nightly routine in every house. especially since the child is at the stage of childhood when the fun game “peekaboo” is the best there is. As you read the first sentence, your child will already want to flip the flap for you to say peek-a-boo! The creators of this book have it on quite a few topics. I’m sure everyone will be a favorite in the house!
my little animal book
This is a fantastic 1st birthday present! As your child grows and learns by leaps and bounds, he will begin to learn animals and sounds; this book becomes more and more a favorite. It’s also very durable, so it can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and withstand those toddler-casting spells we all know nothing about, right?
Look at the sea!
Right now, the sea is the ultimate winner. Your child will have him reading it repeatedly all day! we think it has something to do with those funny googly eyes that really make the book come to life. who doesn’t like googly eyes?
let’s see! (baby einstein first seeks and finds)

you’re my baby – ocean edition
this is simple but beautifully illustrated. you turn the main page of the animal mom, then the middle of the book is a smaller page so your child can flip it to reveal that animal mom’s baby. it’s really great to engage your child in the reading process, and this book hits the nail on the head with that. they have many topics for this book, so you have a lot to choose from.
a potty for me!

The flap books for 18 month olds are a big hit at this age, but this one really helps them understand the concept of the potty. Plus, 18 months is a great age to introduce potty books! The author, Karen Katz, produces some fantastic books that are colorful and beautifully crafted.
who do you love? a book to touch and feel
this one has different textures and fur to feel. it’s a fun favorite for that. is a very sweet book and especially perfect for families with several children.
rock-a-bye baby
rock-a-bye baby is a beautiful and upbeat version of the classic nursery rhyme. the illustrations in this book are beautiful and soothing to look at. When you start reading one of these 18-month-old books, you might find yourself singing along to it.
tickle time
tickle time is a great book to read at any time of the day. he has invented words that will make the whole room laugh. it’s fun and short and will have them giggling and giggling, tickling each other when he says “gitch goo” (which is a lot!).
cuddling puppy
This book is more for parents, but your child will love it too. it’s about a mommy dog and her puppy making cookies and she’s telling her how much she loves her. but the twist is that it’s a song. it’s so much fun! you can learn to sing it here.
i love you forever
this is an old but good. it’s the inevitable heartbreak that every mother reads it to her children at least a hundred times, and she cries even more every time she reads it. this book was actually supposed to be sung. if you want to listen to it, click here.

are you my mother?
Eighteen months is the age when animals and sounds are of real interest. are you my mother? it’s about a sweet little bird that hatches when mom looks for food; she falls out of the nest and starts looking for her mom. she meets some animals and non-animals thinking they are her mom, but she is reunited with her in the end of course.

can’t be a complete list of children’s books without at least one dr. seuss book the stand up book has lots of tongue-tied sentences and will really grab your toddler’s attention.
flame flame night night
The great thing about this series of books is that there are tons of llama llama books about every occasion you can think of. you will end up collecting them all! They’re just the right length to hold an 18-month-old’s attention and satisfy the need to be read to.
dear zoo: a book with flip-up flaps
All children love animals. You may feel like you have every animal book known to man, but this is a top 5 every home should have. incorporates the lifting of the fins to make them feel part of it. Plus, the flaps help them remember what’s happening in the story and help them anticipate what’s coming next.
guess how much I love you
Who doesn’t love this book? he’s so sweet and we love that he’s a daddy and a son. it’s refreshing to see dad taking care of his little hazel rabbit. These last two books for 18-month-olds will be husbands’ favorites to read.
the very hungry caterpillar
This is another old but good one. incorporates the life cycle of a butterfly into the story, which is great! as is teaching children about nature. The little holes in the book where the caterpillar is eating everything attracts your child’s attention. This is one of those young children’s books that you should take your time reading, because you can have fun pretending to have a tummy ache when the caterpillar eats all the junk food it shouldn’t.
