aaron elkins is a multi-award winning writer and is considered one of the best novelists in the world. He is best known for the series of books that he writes, the Gideon Oliver series and the Chris Norgen series.
elkins was born in brooklyn, new york on july 24, 1935. his father worked as a machinist while his mother was a homemaker. elkins studied at hunter college in manhattan where she earned a bachelor of arts. he then went to the university of arizona and then to california state university in los angeles where she earned a master’s degree in the same field. He would later receive his doctorate in education (ed.d.) in 1976 from the university of california, berkeley.
Before he began writing, Elkin was a government employee in various fields. he also worked as a consultant and lecturer primarily in the fields of business psychology and anthropology. after this, he decided to take writing seriously and began writing his own books at the age of 42. Aaron is married to author Charlotte Elkins and the two now live in Sequim, Washington with their children.

elkins has been honored with awards throughout his writing career. The fourth book in Oliver’s series, Old Bones, was the 1988 Edgar Award for “Best Mystery Novel.” He also received the Nero Award for Best Mystery Novel in 1994 for the third book in Chris Norgren’s series, Old Score. He has also written books with his wife, Charlotte, and the two won an Agatha Award together for their short story, “Good Gorilla.”

The Gideon Oliver series even became a television series on ABC that aired in 1989. It featured Oliver as a professor at Columbia University. he uses his skills and understanding of cultures to solve crimes. the series was created by dick wolf of law & sort of fame and starring louis gossett, jr. as Oliver and Shari Headley as his daughter Zina.
The Fellowship of Fear is the first book in Gideon Oliver’s series of mysteries. The series follows Gideon Oliver, an anthropology professor, who earns a fellowship at US military bases across Europe. seems too good to be true and soon turns out to be just that. his first night in heidelberg he sees two men come to his room to kill him. It turns out that the two previous occupants of his stall lost their lives under mysterious circumstances. Gideon finds himself a target in this unknown game that he doesn’t know the rules of. He will have to rely on his skills if he wants to survive, as the security of Western Europe is at stake.

A Deceptive Clarity is the first book in Chris Norgren’s series of mysteries. The series features museum curator and Renaissance art expert Chris Norgren as she heads to Berlin to help put on an exhibit. the plundered past will feature twenty priceless elder masters who were once rooted by the Nazis. the work was thought to be lost forever, but has recently been rediscovered. Things get complicated when Chris’s boss dies after spotting a fake. This gives Chris two more tasks for him to do: find the fake and catch the killer watching him.

long time coming is a standalone novel by elkins. The story follows art curator Val Caruso who is going through a rough time. his promotion was cancelled, his divorce is final and he is about to turn forty. He receives encouraging news when he is offered the opportunity to travel to Milan to help Holocaust survivor Sol Bezzecca recover a pair of Renoir’s prized sketches. After decades in hiding, the paintings that once belonged to Sol have turned up and it’s up to Val to get them back. Val’s trip to Italy takes a dangerous turn when he encounters art thieves, forgers and someone who wants Val out of the picture for good. The paintings end up being stolen again and Val is now more determined than ever to get them back.
