grammar review and practice
All the books in the grammar review and practice section contain exercises to review and perfect the use of Spanish grammar. some of these resources use a cd-rom, smartphone app or website as a plug-in to book. these are best for students or professionals who want to perfect their command of Spanish grammar from intermediate to advanced level. some resources are part of a series with resources for lower levels of Spanish.
1. “the best review and practice of Spanish”
Aimed at intermediate and advanced learners, this workbook provides a comprehensive review of the Spanish language for English-speaking learners. This book is designed around reviewing grammar and vocabulary for practical, everyday use, with an emphasis on conversational exchanges. the various topics discussed among its 28 chapters consist of various grammatical concepts, as well as idiomatic usages and common mistakes.
I personally used the first edition of this book, which was published in 1999 before the advent of the smartphone. the currently available second edition is available with a cd-rom, and the upcoming “premium third edition” will include the latest app available for both android and ios (release date september 4, 2015). Through pre- and post-tests, audio exercises, and a record/playback feature to compare your pronunciation with native speakers, “The Best Spanish Review and Practice” is fully equipped to review and improve every aspect of Spanish proficiency skills. Spanish. It is ideal for self-study or as a complement to formal lessons.
2. “use of Spanish grammar”
This series published by edelsa is available in 3 levels: elementary, intermediate and advanced. Unlike the other books on this list, this book focuses entirely on grammar. there are no texts, articles, cultural notes or vocabulary lessons on the pages of this resource.
Ideal for self-study, this can be ideal for those who want to focus their grammar without extra tidbits as a distraction. This minimalistic resource includes an explanation of each grammar point, as well as graphs, charts, and numerous exercises. the advanced book contains lessons on 22 grammar topics, while the beginner and intermediate books contain 35 and 31, respectively. responses sold separately.
3. “new prism”
With books available for both self-study and the classroom, edinumen’s new prism series was designed with a strong focus on improving communication skills. each book has been designed in accordance with the curricular plan of the cervantes institute (pcic), which in turn is structured to align with the standards set by the common european framework of reference for languages.
This resource is available for all levels of Spanish. The self-study exercise book focuses on grammar exercises and preparation for the DELE. The class book focuses on the integration of grammar and vocabulary in everyday situations, with a strong emphasis on conversation both inside and outside the classroom. More activities and resources are available online and with an optional CD-ROM. you can also search amazon for the teacher’s book for additional features.
4. “Improvement course: speak, write and think in Spanish”
This workbook is designed for upper-intermediate to advanced students who have reached a dead end in their grammar studies. Excellent for both self-study and classroom use, this resource helps students perfect the rules and idiosyncrasies of grammar that are often overlooked in beginning and intermediate level classes.
Through meticulous explanations (eg, several chapters are devoted to the subjunctive), comprehensive written exercises but relatively short topical sections, students have the opportunity to thoroughly understand advanced grammar and apply newly learned language to complex real-world situations. .
A variety of texts are used throughout the book, many of which were taken from newspapers and books in Spanish. Numerous grammar and vocabulary exercises are provided, both as a stand-alone language review and as supplements to the aforementioned texts and articles. answer book sold separately.

Created by edelsa with advanced and advanced learners in mind (possibly Spanish speakers as well), this resource focuses on mastering the Spanish language. skills to read, listen, write and speak are developed equally, and also in a variety of everyday situations and linguistic contexts.
Designed according to the reference levels provided by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Instituto Cervantes, this is an excellent resource for classroom use, self-study and for those preparing for C2 level. of give him Among other topics, students are taught to refine various nuances of the language, expand their lexicon through lesser-used vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, and review idiosyncrasies in written and spoken Spanish.
Each of its ten units is made up of comprehensive activities that address all aspects of the language. grammar and vocabulary resources
Most of the grammar and vocabulary resources do not contain additional exercises from the workbook. In general, they are intended to be guides to the norms and idiosyncrasies of written and spoken Spanish both in Europe and in Latin America. these books are appropriate for native and non-native Spanish speakers alike, particularly those whose careers demand a level of linguistic precision that is not imperative in casual, everyday situations.
6. “Practical grammar dictionary: 800 worksheets on the correct use of Spanish”
This resource published by edelsa lists in alphabetical order 800 grammatical concepts related to the most frequent and important speech operators in Spanish, as succinctly expressed by the author. Although this resource is aimed at advanced learners, it would be a welcome resource in many primary classrooms for both teachers and students.
each grammar point contains a detailed explanation of what the word or concept means and how to use it precisely. a description of the grammatical point and two example sentences with the word used in context begin each section. then the grammatical meaning is explained (eg, adverbial locution of hypothesis) and the syntactic rules (eg, it is used with a verb in the indicative). when necessary, the use and registration of the phrase is given. this is especially so when a word is cult, or when a phrase is equivalent to a more commonly used operator.
The end of many grammar points includes a helpful section that compares that phrase to other similar or contrasting phrases. You can also buy a workbook with a separate answer key on amazon.
7. “The 500 most frequent questions about Spanish”
Published by the Cervantes Institute, this book focuses on the most common questions that arise among Spanish speakers (generally native speakers). each of the 500 questions is accompanied by a detailed response that addresses every aspect of that particular concern. Not only is the answer to each question explained in great detail, but the authors also describe situations in which that language point can be used, as well as why a particular question is right, wrong, or correct, depending on the context.
As the authors seem to understand that linguistic analyzes may not be suitable for everyone, correct and incorrect sentences are given in each entry. this allows readers to directly compare and contrast how a particular thought is expressed, especially since the wrong example is often a common mistake native speakers make. where appropriate, preferred and less than ideal ways of writing a sentence are also provided.
8. “the good use of Spanish”
Published by the Real Academia Española and the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language, this is a comprehensive, albeit brief, guide to the Spanish language. as quoted in the introductory chapter of the book:
is intended for the vast majority, for all speakers who experience spelling or grammatical doubts and uncertainties about the language. It is designed and organized so that access to information is quick, consultation time is short and the explanation is intuitive, clear and sufficient.
With 224 blocks throughout more than 500 pages, it is a quick guide to practically all aspects of the Spanish language, from phonemes to the use of commas, capital letters, interrogatives with and without accents, verb periphasis and phrases.
9. “manual of the new grammar of the Spanish language”
This book, also published by the Royal Spanish Academy, is an academic guidance resource developed to review the complexities of Spanish grammar. This 1,000-page linguistic tome is aimed at proficient speakers who are passionate about grammar or who need linguistic precision in their use of Spanish.
It is not intended to be used as a learning guide, but rather as a comprehensive, technical and systematic grammar manual for language professionals and amateurs. Those of us who are language teachers, translators, writers, or linguists who speak European or Latin American Spanish can appreciate the linguistic depth of this book.
10. “Talk through the elbows: phrases for everyday Spanish”
oriented to European Spanish, this book published by edelsa contains 175 idioms and 45 refrains to add a colorful and natural dimension to everyday speech.

each list contains an illustration of the literal meaning of the phrase, an explanation of the actual meaning, and sentences that naturally use the expression in context. Since this book is updated every year, readers can be sure they are learning phrases and sayings that are currently used by native speakers.
removal preparation
dele preparation resources are designed for students trying to prepare for the internationally recognized Spanish proficiency exam. Most of the resources listed are available at all levels of the wipe, from A1 to C2. all are great for self-study, but would also make a great addition to a formal dele course.
maybe you want to go to graduate school in a Spanish speaking country (that’s why your server can take this test). you may want to give potential employers an official rating of your level of Spanish.
for the more accomplished among us, maybe you just want to prove to yourself that you can pass. Whatever the reason, here are some books that can help you join the ranks of the passers-by. While various grammar and vocabulary resources would surely be useful additions, these books are specifically geared towards preparing students for this specific exam.

the DELE exams have been designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe, which ensures a practical way of establishing a standard, international and objective measure of the level that must be achieved. achieved in each stage of teaching, and in the evaluation of the results.
Before registering for the exam and buying your preparation books, take the level test offered by the Instituto Cervantes. since each level is divided into sublevels, e.g. c1.1 – c1.4, you can see exactly where your current level falls on the cefr spectrum. after intense study, you may want to take the online test again to see how much progress you’ve made.
as mentioned earlier in this post, new prism self-study version contains dele preparation for all levels, and “mastery: refresher course” is considered as specific preparation for dele c2. As a note, the format of the c1 and c2 exams is quite different from the lower level exams.
11. “preparation of him”
this series of edelsa is available for all levels of the delle. each book is separated into six topics, each containing a sample test and corresponding vocabulary. an audio cd is included for the listening comprehension section of the exam.
In my opinion, this should not be the only resource you use to prepare for the exam. Although it has many exams and practice exercises, there are few methods and strategies for taking exams.
12. “the stopwatch”
“The Timer,” published by edinumen, is packed with sample exams as well as numerous strategies and guidelines to prepare your readers for the complexities of the dele. Since the authors seem to realize that not all students are the same, this resource offers a variety of suggestions for students to help them determine which methods work best for them. the book contains four complete sample exams, although the number of texts and other questions through this resource is supposed to equate to eight sample exams. an audio cd is included.
