In addition to being the big winner in Republican politics this week, Vance has received more good news, as his book Hillbilly Elegy has seen a huge surge in sales.
The book currently ranks 170th on amazon in the overall us book list. But it’s number one in several categories, including “poverty,” “rural sociology,” and “class sociology.”

Vance’s book received critical acclaim when it was published in 2016, with National Magazine describing it as “a harrowing portrait of much that has gone wrong in America over the past two generations.” The economist said, “You won’t read a more important book about America this year.” other reviews were just as enthusiastic, from across the political divide.
The book sold well and was still ranked 4th on amazon as of mid-2017. But then sales declined, as most books do. as of mid-2020, it was ranked 647th on amazon’s list.
In late 2020, a film version was released on Netflix, starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close, and directed by Ron Howard. The Netflix movie was critically panned: It has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 25 percent. however, it was in the netflix top ten for two weeks, according to ratings from nielsen and streaming data tracker flixpatrol.
the netflix release gave sales of vance’s book a boost, as expected. According to Amazon data accessed via the internet archive The Wayback Machine, it rose to 160th place in Amazon’s book rankings in November 2020, an increase of about 500 places from a few months earlier. However, according to the latest data, since the beginning of May, hillbilly energy has risen to 170, a rise of around 6,000 places. Trump endorsed Vance on April 15, according to Vance’s tweet that day.

vance’s victory means he will now face democrat congressman tim ryan in the november midterms after handily winning their respective primaries. Ryan, the 2020 presidential candidate, beat his closest challenger, Morgan Harper, by more than 52 percentage points on Tuesday, with 86 percent of the ballots reported. Bookies have made Vance the overwhelming favorite to fill the Ohio Senate seat being vacated by Republican Rob Portman.
