- Used – Very Good: An item that is in excellent condition, but shows signs of limited use. item must have no marks or damage and should function like new, but may have some light signs of wear.
- Used – Good: An item that shows wear, but works Like new, and in good condition. The item may have marks and other signs of regular use. this condition is not accepted for all product categories; Sellers should check if applicable for their particular item.
- Used – Fair: An item that is in perfect working order, but shows significant signs of wear. item may have scratches, dents, or marks indicating previous use. this condition is not accepted for all product categories; sellers should check if it is applicable for their particular item.
unacceptable conditions
Items that are defective in any of the following ways are not permitted for sale through amazon:
- does not work perfectly.
- is dirty or shows signs of staining, corrosion, or mold.
- damaged in a way that affects use.
- is missing essential add-ons (although missing instructions may be acceptable).
- requires repair.
- is a copy, imitation, replica, counterfeit (also known as as “imitation”).
- is promotional material or sample material, including early reading copies of unpublished books.
- cannot be viewed in its entirety due to marks, damage or similar.

- New: The dust cover is intact and all ancillary materials, including access codes for the software, are working or valid.
- u sed – like new: the dust cover is intact and undamaged. no creases visible on the spine. pages are immaculate “remaining marks” may be present on page edges and part of product listing.
- used – very good: dust cover is intact , the pages do not contain any handwritten or highlighted notes , and the spine remains intact.
- Used – Good: If the book has a dust cover, it is intact, as is all pages. pages may contain some (but not extensive) highlights and handwritten notes. spine may show signs of wear and tear. “Library of” covers are acceptable.
- Used – Acceptable: Cover and book pages are intact, but dust cover may be missing. pages may contain highlighted and handwritten notes, but not to the extent that the text is obscured or illegible.
- unacceptable: the book contains missing pages and/or hidden or unreadable text.
books – collectibles
Sellers in this category must be pre-approved by Amazon and collectible books must be unique, such as first edition/first printing, inscribed works, or uncorrected proofs of out-of-print books.

The criteria for collection conditions are different from those of books: new and used. instead, the following conditions are used:

- collectible – very good: pages are intact and do not contain highlighted handwritten notes. dust jacket may show wear. no wrinkles visible on spine.
