Born October 1945 to a pilot and homemaker, Anita Shreve was the best-selling author of the critically acclaimed novel, The Pilot’s Wife, among others. She was influenced early on by reading Edith Wharton’s Ethan Frome when she was a junior in high school and also by anything written by Eugene O’Neill when she was a senior. After graduating from Tufts University in 1968, she became a high school teacher in and around Boston for several years. during her last year as a teacher she quit her job to start writing.

After his short story submissions to magazines were repeatedly rejected, his early work was eventually published in literary magazines. the story of him beyond the island, adrift, won the prestigious o. henry award however, she soon realized that, despite the award, he couldn’t make a living writing short fiction.
shreve switched to journalism and traveled to nairobi, kenya, where he worked for three years. his novel, the last time they saw each other, contains snippets of his time in kenya. Upon returning to the United States, she began working as an editor and writer for magazines in New York.

After raising a family, he began freelancing for various magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Esquire. In 1989, Anita finally managed to publish her first novel, Eden Close, along with her other novels shortly after the first, averaging nearly one book a year. She has also written non-fiction titles including Women Together, Women Alone, and Remaking Motherhood.

The Pilot’s Wife focuses on Kathryn Lions, whose husband, Jack, died in a plane crash. as she and ella’s daughter mattie de ella try to cope with this loss, kathryn finds herself hounded by the press. As she works with the airline to try to find out why the plane her husband was flying crashed, she begins to realize that she didn’t know her husband at all and had led a double life from which she didn’t know anything. the pilot’s wife was chosen to appear in oprah’s book club, which brought her to almost cult status.
This novel was made into a television movie in 2002 for CBS. starring campbell scott and christine lahti, the film was shot in ireland and was scheduled to be released a few days after september 11, 2001 for obvious reasons the film was pushed back to april 2001.

Set in the late 19th century at a summer camp on the New Hampshire coast, 15-year-old heroine Olympia Biddeford, like many girls her age in Shreve’s earlier novels, seeks true love and experimentation. sexual. When she meets 41-year-old married doctor John Haskell through her father, she finds what she’s looking for. Though their relationship is short-lived, the repercussions are devastating, ruining both their futures. she with olympia she gets pregnant and they take the baby away from her, she is sent to a seminar, but she manages to escape from her after three years to start a new life. her past catches up with her and she comes back to haunt her. By the way, Fortune Rocks, which gives the book its name, is actually a beach in Biddeford, Maine.
The Weight of Water was released in theaters in the fall of 2002. the main character jean, goes to the new hampshire coast to work. She is joined by Rich, her brother-in-law and her girlfriend Adaline, as well as Ella’s ex-husband Thomas Ella. what follows is a muddled, muddled, pompous cinematic experience that is compounded by the fact that there is an attempt to tell two stories, one ancient and one modern. it was more than rave reviews and went straight to video. this is another case of great book forget about the movie.
