as you may have noticed, after kenneth branagh’s latest trailer for his upcoming film adaptation of murder on the orient express (you can read my thoughts on that here), i’ve been on a christie binge, revisiting old favorites and exploring just what It’s what drives my love with the queen of crime So, I thought I’d share my top five favorite Miss Marple novels. Although she is always second in my affections to Belgium’s super-sleuth Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple is a truly excellent character, and whose novels are fascinating studies of the best of Golden Age detective fiction.
5. Vicarage Murder: The first full-length novel to feature the quick-witted and determined Miss Marple, Vicarage Murder is a great place to start if you haven’t yet tasted the delights of these intriguing mysteries. Set in Miss Marple’s hometown of St Mary Mead, the plot revolves around the murder of the despised local magistrate at the Vicarage, with a wide variety of suspects at hand. Miss Marple, a local meddler, soon becomes involved in the investigation and works tirelessly to uncover the truth.
4. A Caribbean Mystery: Transplanted from the traditional setting of a Christie’s novel, A Caribbean Mystery takes place on the Caribbean island of St Honore, offering a new space to enjoy this elegantly constructed story. Miss Marple, on vacation to recover from an illness, has a sinister conversation with a resort guest, who tells her about a man who got away with multiple murders. later, the man himself is murdered, leading our detective to uncover a web of lies, deception, and dishonesty.

3. The Body in the Library: This novel is worth reading for the inventive, almost Dickensian name of Inspector Slack, who is called in to investigate the murder of an unknown young woman, dressed as if she were going to a party, found in the library of a manor house. The owner of the house is an old friend of Miss Marple’s, and as such, our ammeter detective is committed to helping solve this diabolical mystery and discover the identity of the victim and the killer.
2.at bertram’s hotel: as is often the case with christie, it is the characters that make this novel truly remarkable and worth reading. the dazed canon pennyfather, the loathsome michael gorman, the scheming bess sedgwick, as well as her calculating daughter elvira blake, and of course, the cunning miss maple, all amplify the mystery thanks to their cunning and collusion throughout the plot, which It centers on Blake and his mother meeting at the Beteram Hotel, where Miss Marple is visiting to relive old memories.

Paddington 4.50: Dark, twisted and exceptionally well plotted, this is the last novel by Agatha Christie. the plot is so exceptionally well thought out and convoluted that I defy anyone to guess the conclusion. Miss Marple is assisted by friends as she works to uncover the mystery of a woman who is strangled on a train, watched from afar by her friend, who is quickly believed by no one except the ever-wary Miss Marple. Filled with intriguing characters and mountains of greed and social envy, this exciting novel explores the darker side of human nature that Christie vowed to portray at her worst.
