For most people, their first experience with a scanner is a flatbed scanner, designed to take an image one at a time under a door. If your goal is to transfer an entire book, or file, to a digital format, then a dedicated book scanner will take hours, maybe days, out of the process.
Good book scanners are designed to speed up every part of the process that the user would otherwise repeat; instead of a moving scanner, a camera is held high enough so that it can quickly capture the page. however, while measured in seconds, time per page is a factor that can be added for 300-400 page books.

mechanisms to recognize the page change also reduce times; Some scanners come with foot pedals so the operator can hand-turn the pages, hold them in place, and start a scan without the book slamming shut. there are even some that use ai to detect page changes.
If you plan to scan a lot of glossy pages, scanners that offer lower illumination or more diagonal lighting can help prevent reflections. Another great hardware feature to look out for is laser sensors that can detect the three-dimensional shape of pages. these help algorithms that replicate the original flat pages in scans offered by even more scanners, but hardware measurements usually give the process an edge.

czur doesn’t like to sit still and recently added this higher resolution 5696 x 4272 scanner to its range. It has a lot in common with the ET18 Pro, including magnetically detachable side-mounted lights to minimize reflections. it also has a higher resolution; pushing it over the 300ppi point from an area over a3.
In the box there is a hand button and a foot pedal so you can scan quickly, as well as a black mat to place the book on and ‘finger cots’, a kind of thimble to hold the page that are automatically removed by software, while the pages are flattened by ‘second generation’ laser measurement. the software can also, for the most part, recognize page changes for automatic scanning.
all this adds up to a machine that can scan up to one page per second and save in pdf, word or other files thanks to the included ocr.
an hdmi port also offers 1080p live view, so this scanner is as comfortable in the conference room as it is in the office.

Instead of pointing a high resolution camera downward like many document scanners, the scansnap sv600 still performs linear scans, adjusting focus as it goes to avoid the possibility of distortion in the corners of the image. while the lights stay in the same place, the brightness adjusts as the scan also slides across the page. software efficiency tools are also impressive; an a3 landscape in three seconds and the scanner is also happy with bound pages up to 30mm thick. it can compensate for curl, produce perfectly flat scans, and detect and separate multiple documents on the bed. abbyy ocr is also included, which means scannable data is extracted & editable text is doable and indeed the quality should help. resolution is good, with 150, 200, 300 and 600 dpi modes (all at 3 seconds), which should please design agencies, studios, galleries and professional archival services in mind.
The Aura Mate Pro is Czur’s answer to the mobile worker’s book scanning and presentation tool. a document scanner equipped with much of its processing functionality from its dedicated devices with additional features for online meetings, one of which is a second camera on the post, ideal for a teacher sharing a book or a student in a kind of zoom, although the addition of wi-fi might be more useful more often.
In addition to working with your computer (mac and windows), you can use your phone with a comprehensive enough system to remind you to adjust your posture if you have been using it for a long time. It may be portable, but the inclusion of a foot pedal makes it clear that Czur is still serious about book scanning functionality. ocr software and page flattening are not left out. The lamp-like design includes a 320 x 240 px preview LCD screen and (especially compared to its sibling) it looks beautiful – Pixar would be proud.
many of us are involved in sharing parts of documents, including books, at conferences and live online presentations; step forward today’s overhead projector: a document camera.
