Finding books to read as a single mom can be a challenge.

Most advice or family books are written for the traditional two-parent family. While this makes sense, as a single mom, I can’t read an entire parenting book, giving advice every step of the way on how to use each chapter with your spouse.

so instead I’m left to scan the table of contents and make sure there’s only one chapter I’ll need to skip. no matter what, there always seems to be a chapter on marriage.

However, the books below nail it. these books cover parenting, praying, dating, and life in general without having to read marriage advice.

These aren’t strictly “books for single moms,” but we don’t need our own gender so much as we don’t need to feel left out while reading.

I read about 80 books a year, so I can confidently say that if you had to pack up a stack of books to give to someone just starting out on their journey as a single mom, these would be the books.

I think a lot of us can relate and say that life isn’t “supposed to be this way”, but now we have to ask ourselves where do we go from here. this book helps us answer that question.

being a single mom is overwhelming, but jennifer maggio really knows it. In Overwhelmed: The Life of a Single Mom, Jennifer tells her true story from being a single mom who rose from being a homeless teen mom to a successful corporate executive.

boundaries with kids by henry cloud and john townsend is the most outstanding book i own. If you have a strong-willed child, then this book is a must.

When I was struggling with challenge problems with my youngest son as a single parent, this book was my lifesaver. Since then, I have returned to the principles of this book many times. I tried listening to it on audio and it didn’t have the same effect. it’s definitely one you’ll want to be able to bookmark and read.

I found it so helpful that I also bought the workbook when I felt I was slipping some of the principles about a year later.

I’ve included two parenting books on this list because parenting yourself is just hard. how to talk so kids will listen & listen so the kids can talk by adele faber & Elaine Mazlish is a book I wish I had read when my children were younger.

But the best thing about this book is that the principles are solid. you can start when your children are toddlers or teenagers, and it will work.

Since the publication of this book, others have been released specifically for teenagers or younger children, but the concept is the same for everyone, I would recommend the previous book, regardless of the age of your child.
