why Spanish-English bilingual books are a great addition to your language program

the home page lists many translations of popular fiction. both the stories and the longer works have been translated into Spanish and French. there are also audio and video files to access!
just scroll down to choose a title. i chose one of my favorite stories, bram stoker’s dracula and was thrilled to see that the parallel text for all three languages is so well aligned that it’s effortless to look at from one language to another.
When you get stuck on a word, just look to find its meaning. For more effective practice, write down both the word and its meaning for later review. Soon you will have a new vocabulary list inspired by the classics!

and if you’ve ever wanted to peruse the works of robert louis stevenson, edgar allen poe, charles dickens, or countless other acclaimed authors, take a moment to look around. I did, and I ended up reading some great literature!

I chose “alice’s adventures in wonderland” by lewis carroll and was not disappointed.
in addition to lewis carroll, mark twain, sir arthur conan doyle, franz kafka and jules verne are represented. Options consist of a small but stellar group of authors and some of his best works—all set for Spanish reading practice!
To access a book, click on the title. the next page will ask you which foreign language you want to read; it’s called the “left language” because foreign text appears on the left side of the screen.
simply press the arrow to display the dropdown menu, choose español (espanol) and then press the “read” button. It’s that easy!
The selections here include some beautiful black and white illustrations that accompany the text. And those beautiful images don’t need translation!

alba learning’s parallel textbooks include classic works by many authors. are offered in multiple languages. many titles will be familiar to you!
miguel cervantes is on the list, although his famous “don quixote” is not available. “the force of the blood” (“the force of the blood”) is accessible. If you’ve never read it, I suggest you check it out. It’s a fascinating story in any language!
cervantes is not the only one whose works are here. James Joyce, Rudyard Kipling, Jack London, and many other respected novelists are on the literature list. It’s a who’s who of the world of writing and each work is translated into Spanish for us to love and learn!
A great advantage of the books on this site is that they are also available as free audiobooks. the option is right at the top of each book section, so if you want to hear the story in addition read it, click that little audio button!

While free kids books are geared toward children, there’s no reason why beginning Spanish learners, or any adult, can’t enjoy fun, fast-paced reads. They accommodate toddlers to young adults (although this adult did read several of his books this morning).

This website is especially helpful because some books include the literal translation in addition to the Spanish and English versions. this shows the nuances of the language and its translation, and makes for an interesting read!

online spanish club has only one book available but it is so well formatted and translated that it is worth reading.
“the surprise” is about a young couple and a surprise gone wrong. I won’t give up in the end, you’ll have to find out on your own!
The translation is given below the Spanish passages and each line is numbered for ease of understanding and for comparison purposes. this is a good way to test bilingual reading: it’s not too long or complicated!

This app is available for iphone and android users. shows stories in two languages simultaneously and provides an audio reading so students can hear the words and their pronunciation.
“The Adventures of Aladdin”, “Beauty and the Beast” and“The Tortoise and the Hare” are some of the stories that appear in this application.
Each sentence is highlighted as it’s read aloud. There’s also an option to reread a line or section, so revising a part for clarification couldn’t be easier!

ian falconer’s beloved pig comes to life in the narrative of “olivia”, the first book in the series.
The story is read and translated, and it’s so entertaining that I can almost guarantee you’ll see it more than once. I know I did!
I have a physical copy of the Spanish version of “olivia” and its pages show how many times it has been read in my house!
