How many times have you opened a book on the subway or bus, only to find the person next to you looking over your shoulder and reading? the worst (or maybe the funniest) is when you’re reading books with sex scenes and the person’s eyes go wide. As an avid bookworm, I constantly have strangers take a look at what I’m reading and I have to resist the urge to say, oh hello. I didn’t know that reading was a group activity.
There are plenty of exciting books too good to put down, where the language manages to be both elegant and dirty at the same time. the most recent novel I read (see #6) is a contemporary European classic with several amazing sex scenes in every chapter. I really can’t blame strangers for being nosy. after turning a page, I can almost feel her inner cries of, no, she wasn’t done yet!

the lover is a short autofiction novel that takes longer to digest than to read. It’s raw, emotionally violent, and written in the present tense, so it feels like you’re there as the two main characters, a Chinese man and a French teenager in colonial Vietnam, make forbidden love.

4. ‘reflected in you’ by sylvia day
If you haven’t already bought into the Sylvia Day crossfire series hype and gotten carried away with Eva and Gideon’s intense relationship, now you will. Do yourself a favor and read this book at night in a hot bath with lit candles and rose petals scattered on the floor. definitely nsftp (not publicly secure).

this book is like the lovechild of when harry met sally and the fault in our stars. two boys first meet in a hospital and then meet again and again over the course of three decades. the reunion sex scenes fuse lust with intimate passion so perfectly that it could just as well be called love porn.
