brian lumley is an english author of fiction. he is best known for his works within the science fiction and horror genre. he was born on december 2, 1937, near newcastle. Interested in horror classics in his pre-teens, he was always more into science fiction. Lumley became interested in science fiction and macabre fiction after reading a short story by Robert Bloch in a British science fiction magazine.

lumley went to serve with the rmp as a young man in germany. Once he found a collection of Lovecraft stories, Lumley began searching for all of the author’s works that he could find. This ultimately ended with him contacting Lovecraft’s publisher, Derleth, to see if he could purchase some volumes that were still missing.

included some of his writing along with the letter and derleth asked lumley if he had anything solid that could be part of a novel he was preparing to publish called tales from the cthulu mythos. It was then that Brian Lumley began writing and her career in fiction began. Derleth went on to include her stories in anthologies and published three of her novels, Even Beneath the Moors, and the others are collections of short stories and novellas. These early works somewhat reflected Lovecraft’s style, but Lumley would come to create her own style.

lumley served 22 years in the royal military police and was even promoted to petty officer. during that time he was able to write several novels. he retired in 1980 from the army and began to write a great deal. he started all four dreamlands milieu books and the psychomechanical trilogy.

His groundbreaking book became Necroscope, which featured the main character Harry Keogh, who can speak to the dead. the popular book eventually became a series of bestsellers. Unaware of this at first, he wrote another standalone novel between 1984 and 1985: Demogorgon. The following year, he completed the Dreamlands series and completed the third book in the Necroscope series in 1987. The first two books were published in the UK and it was picked up as a trilogy in the US, only continued.

necroscope iv: deadspeak and necroscope v: deadspawn followed soon after. by the late 1980s, all the financial worries of leaving the army had been left behind thanks to the success of his books. In America alone, his books exceeded one million sales, reaching two.

The success of this series led to his popular vampire trilogy and several other fictional series. he has also composed more than a hundred novels and short stories. Lumley first became a published author with his collection of short stories in 1971 and his first published novel was The Burrowers Under. In 2010 he received the HWA Lifetime Achievement Award as well as a World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award from Him. Lumley’s short story “Necros” was adapted by Ridley Scott in his series The Hunger on Showtime Television.

lumley also received the world horror convention grand master award for his work while guest of honor in 1998. his necroscope book has been selected and reassigned four other times to become a major film, which will include the trilogy original if the deal goes through. he has traveled extensively and has been to the united states, canada, france, cyprus, italy, scotland, ireland, wales and a couple of greek islands and the mediterranean. When he’s not traveling, he lives in Devon, England with his wife. he thanks his dedicated readers for their support.

The Titus Crow Transition is the second book in Lumley’s Titus Crow series and deals with aspects of the Cthulu mythos like its predecessor. The book begins with de Marigny being found ten years after the events of the first book, but with no recollection of what happened. Crow contacts De Marigny sometime after learning what happened and what he is doing with an interesting group called the Wilmarth Foundation to keep the Cthulu cycle deities at bay.
