david murray “dav” pilkey, jr. Also known as Dav Pilkey and writes under the pseudonyms George Beard, Harold Hutchins and Sue Denim. Aside from having multiple names and the odd spelling of having a name, he is one of America’s most famous children’s writers. he is famous for the best selling series called captain underpants. The most interesting thing about his famous character that is Captain Underpants is that he imagined and pampered this character in his mind during elementary school days. in fact, he showed that learning social skills for children can be interesting and fun. he is a true inspiration to all.
was born on March 4, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of David Pilkey and Barbara. During elementary school, he was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), so he couldn’t pay attention in class and concentrate on books. This makes his school life quite difficult for him, even his class teacher punished him several times. one of the most famous incidents from his childhood where his teacher makes him sit outside the classroom with a separate bench in the afternoon. according to dav, he was nothing like a punishment and he always enjoyed that time outdoors with his drawing habit. in fact, that was the place where that special talent for telling funny stories with completely new characters evolved in him. he was used to telling others about those funny characters and everyone loved him except his teachers. according to his personal experience, for his teachers he was just an immature and incapable student who only wasted his time drawing and in his future he will be nothing.

His habit of telling stories with unique characters and drawing continued into high school and college as well. During his university days, in an English class, his teacher found his sketchbook with really funny stories that they were able to connect with the children in an easy and simple way. this was the turning point of her life. his teacher appreciated his work and suggested that he work on children’s books. she was quite happy because for the first time in her life his work was appreciated by a teacher and some showed her a way in his life. he participated in a national contest for student authors and submitted his book entitled world war he won and he really won in his age group. This book was published in 1987. She completed her graduation from Kent State University.
after that, he never looked back, everyone who ever bullied him or had a disrespectful attitude got his answer.
dav was always mischievous by nature and his hyperactivity disorder turned out to be hypercreativity. while he was working at pizza hut, his name changed and the spelling of his name became dav while he was still pronounced dave.
his works were always oriented towards children and were mostly based on imaginary characters such as the dragon with humanity, the dog man and the most famous captain underpants. he continuously wrote books for a long time. his works a friend for dragon (1990), dragon gets by (1991), dragon’s fat cat (1992), dragon’s halloween (1993), dragon’s merry christmas (1994) were inspiration for the famous Canadian animated television series “dragon” which It aired in 2004. This TV series was widely acclaimed by critics as it helped children learn various social skills such as working together, the importance of friendship, and trying new things. when he moved to washington, he met sayuri, a professional musician and also the owner of his favorite japanese restaurant. They began dating in February 2005 and were married in a private ceremony later that year.

The series created by him are Dragon, Silly Bunnies, Captain Underpants, Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot & big dog and puppy. there are some other books written by him some of them are kat kong, dogzilla and the paperboy. he published his latest work in 2016, which is dogman: the world’s greatest cop. today he lives with his wife in seattle, washington and his life is between moving from bainbridge island to minami izu, japan. and yes, he continues to write for the children of this generation and I hope that he continues to write not only to please children but also to inspire everyone. we definitely need more people like him, who can help put some smiles on everyone’s face and help us make this world a better place.
