The author Dave Pelzer was born on December 29, 1960 in San Francisco, California, the second of five children. He grew up in Daly City, California. At the age of twelve, he was placed in foster care due to the beatings he received from his mother. His instructors intervened on March 5, 1973. At the age of eighteen, he joined the US Air Force in 1979 and served in the Gulf War. During the 1996 Summer Olympics torch relay, he was a torchbearer.
In much of his work, he talks about his childhood and how he was abused by his alcoholic mother from the age of four to twelve.
During the 1980s, he married Patsy (which is a pseudonym), his first wife, and had a son with her. They would eventually divorce and he would marry his editor, Marsha.

“a boy named ‘it’” is the first novel in the “dave pelzer” series, which was published in 1995. his emotionally unstable alcoholic mother starved and brutally beat dave pelzer, she played games unpredictable that tortured him and almost killed him. to stay alive, he had to figure out how to play these games, because he had become an it and a slave to her. he was no longer a son and a human being.
his bed was just an old army cot that was put in the basement, and all his clothes were torn and obscene. when he was finally allowed to eat it, it was the nastiest, most spoiled leftovers that the dogs wouldn’t touch. no one else knew absolutely nothing about this horrible nightmare. he had no one to turn to except his dreams, which kept him alive. he dreamed that someone would take care of him, love him and call him son.
fans of the novel found this to be a book that, while not a good story, will change their lives. It will make you want to be a better person. the book is very emotional all the time, you even feel quite sorry for the author. the book was hard to read, but still hard to put down for long. there are different reasons why people will keep reading the book. some enjoyed reading the book so much, that they were interested in choosing the other books in the series. Dave is someone you feel a lot for during all the traumatic experiences he goes through on this, not to mention he has no one to turn to for help with his mom.
“The Lost Boy” is the second novel in the “Dave Pelzer” series, which was published in 1997. With this book, Dave tells his story of how he struggled in foster care. His inner conflict with himself is feeling worthless and sad after all the first few years of abuse. while the external conflict involves dave and his mom. During all of her visits, in all of her different foster homes, she pretends he’s nothing but white trash and still pretty useless.
This is a book that made some fall in love with the story, and the whole story is an enjoyable experience. fans of the novel found this to be well written. some opened their eyes to what happens in the foster care system. Readers find these books truly inspiring as Dave teaches people about resilience and forgiveness. this is simply an excellent book, and some can’t wait to read more of this series.

“a man named dave” is the third novel in the “dave pelzer” series, which was published in 1999. pelzer still has a memory that comes from his childhood, and to which he returns in moments of anguish . It comes from very early in his childhood, during a tender chat between him and his father during a family outing to the Russian River.
It’s incredibly precious to Dave, who still loves his father, even after he did nothing or wasn’t around for his mother to abuse him. This precious moment is a driving force for Pelzer throughout his adult life, and he dreams of living on the Russian River with his father after building a house there.
however, this does not happen. Pelzer joins the air force and intends to become a firefighter, which his father was for a time. while he is here, he writes many letters to his father, who sends only one reply. he is illegible and has no return address. he fears that his dad will be lost due to being homeless and alcoholism. they tell him that his dad is about to die, he runs to his side.
During his final days, his father passes on the prized fire department badge to his son. Dave is able to confront his childhood head-on and form a productive and positive bond with the past.
Fans of the novel find that their perspective has changed just by reading this book about Dave’s life story. makes some want to achieve more, as they feel that if this guy can get everything he has, why can’t the average human do that? this does a great job of showing dave becoming an adult, while he was putting his demons to rest. some find themselves teary-eyed when they think of this book due to the fact that it was able to overcome abuse.
