writing career

working on his first novel with author steve white, it was first published in 1989. this began a long and illustrious writing career under baen books. although he originally started working on material by writing for game franchises, such as writing short stories that were used by gaming workgroups. this, along with his early beginnings in copywriting and advertising, earned him a populist appeal that would cement his later critical and commercial success.

With over five novel series to date, he has a vast collection of work behind him. One of the most notable is the ‘Honor Harrington’ series, which looks at the exploits of its eponymous key protagonist while charting his career as a space officer within the Manticoran Space Marine. this series also branches off into a number of sub-series of its own, taking place in what is known as the ‘honorverse’, presenting a vast and ever-expanding world for its readers to explore.

He is also known for creating other worlds, such as the one featured in his ‘safehold’ series, which has continued until recently with more books planned. presenting a future world where humans hide from the ‘gbaba’ alien race, it is more dystopian in perspective than that of his previous efforts. Receiving a lot of critical and commercial attention, David Weber shows no signs of stopping any time soon. As his richly developed worlds continue to grow, so does his audience and this will continue as he gains national and international recognition.
