Outlander Season 6 just finished airing on Starz, but luckily for fans of the popular time-travel drama, Jamie and Claire’s story is far from over.
The show has already been renewed for a seventh season, with talk also hinting at multiple possible spin-offs. And beyond that, author Diana Gabadon continues to write books on her Outlander series, which serve as inspiration for the television adaptation.

Last fall, he released go tell the bees I’m gone, and in the past, he revealed that the outlander series will probably have ten books in total. It’s not yet known when fans can expect issue ten, though she has started writing the issue.
gabaldon has cryptically shared that the outsider’s story will conclude in 1800.
“i think the outlander books will end in 1800. if this tells you anything, more power to you,” he wrote in the FAQ section of his website. He also revealed that the story will end in Scotland, and for anyone interested, it will have a happy ending.

“yes, the last book will have a happy ending, though I confidently hope it will leave readers with tears in their eyes anyway,” he writes. She also apparently shared this final scene with actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie on the TV series. After joking that the series finale was “garbage” upon seeing what happens live, Heughan shared, “He revealed the ending, the last scene, but he’s still writing the 10th book, so we’ve got a long way to go. . .”
explained in more detail in a recent interview with esquire uk. “Diana Gabaldon [the writer and creator] actually revealed to me how it’s all going to end,” she said. “She emailed me the last pages of what will be the last book very soon, I think in the first few weeks of shooting and I think no one else has seen it apart from another executive producer. Even Caitríona hasn’t seen it and I swear to secrecy.”
Balfe confirmed in an interview with Digital Spy that he doesn’t know anything about how the series will end, in part because he prefers to keep something of a mystery. “i think she [diana] told sam something about her character, but then i think he’s really nosy and harassed her!” balfe joked. “I’m very happy to let the mystery live, and only find out when I need to find out.”
During the same conversation, Balfe shared his hopes for the series finale. “I think it has to be a romeo and juliet moment, right, where we’re both together, or a naoise and deirdre moment where jamie and claire go to bed together and slowly fall asleep,” he mused, referencing an Irish folk legend . about a woman overcome with grief after the death of her husband. “I don’t think one can survive without the other and I don’t think Claire will leave him at all. No one is forever so at some point someone will have to croak for them to do it together!”
Actress Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna Fraser in the TV adaptation, recently shared that she hopes the story ends with Roger and Brianna back in the future. “I feel like they need to come back in the future, everyone comfortable, going to the movies, kids running around, no drama,” Ella Skelton said.

but his father jamie won’t time travel. Gabaldon has made it very clear on social media.
That said, the final installment in the series will provide the answer to a question fans have been asking since the first book. that ghost seeing claire when she was on her second honeymoon with frank in 1945?
sure enough, it was jamie.
“The ghost is Jamie, but as far as how he fits into the story, it’ll all be explained in the last book,” Gabaldon writes in the FAQ section of his website.
and as for the apparent age of jamie’s appearance, he once wrote on twitter, “ghosts don’t exist in a place where time makes sense.”
I guess we’ll have to keep an eye out to find out exactly what that means.
