Fans will be thrilled to learn that Nick and Charlie end up together.

since this is a teen romance, hopefully a happy ending; however, as this is a television series, some were concerned that the characters’ indecisiveness would carry over to another season.

charlie initially ended the relationship because he thought it was making nick’s life worse, not because he didn’t want to be with him.

“I know people have hurt you and you feel like I’d be better off without you,” Nick tells Charlie in an attempt to make his intentions clear in the season’s penultimate episode.

The two then get back together and go to the beach, where Nick tells Charlie that he wants to be open about their relationship and not hide it from the people he loves.

The camera then cuts to a scene where Nick tells his mother, played by Olivia Coleman, that he’s bisexual.

TV series vs comics

heartstopper, the television series was inspired by alice oseman’s comic book series of the same name.

When Netflix commissioned the show, they hired Oseman to adapt and write the show for television, meaning most of the key parts and characters are still familiar to comic book fans.

However, the writer admitted that changes were inevitable to make the story compelling television.

“some things that are in a comic just don’t work for television,” he told the radio times.

“Like a heartstopper, comics are a very low-stakes story. issues are resolved almost immediately, which is not normally the way television works, so we had to add a little more drama, a little more angst, to the show.

“I think the main thing we changed was probably slowing down nick’s self-acceptance process. i think, in the comics, nick has a bit of a meltdown, but then he’s fine.

“but on the show, we really stretched it out a bit longer and gave him more time to accept himself, and so there’s a bit more drama and angst in episodes 4 and 5.”

The most noticeable change for viewers was the commission of Aled, who was one of Charlie’s closest friends in the book series.

oseman said the reason for this is that in the comics aled finally gets his own story, narrowing the path they could take to the character.

aled has been replaced by isaac, and his originality on the tv show means his options for the character are wide open.
