Douglas Preston is an American journalist and author best known for writing crime novels and investigative thrillers. Preston is a native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he spent much of his childhood in the quiet suburb of Wellesley. He would attend various public schools where the threat of expulsion for the headstrong boy always loomed, but he eventually graduated from Weston’s Cambridge School. Due to his stubborn and curious nature, he got into fights several times with his brother, Richard, and lost his two front teeth before losing a fingertip on a bicycle. His brother would go on to write “The Cobra Event” and “The Hot Zone,” which best explain what it was like growing up with Douglas Preston. The two brothers often roamed the quiet streets of their small suburb and terrorized the residents with their rockets and homemade fuel devices they made from chemistry sets or mail-ordered from the many comic books they read. p>
After being denied admission to Stanford for reasons he couldn’t explain, he decided to attend the University of Pomona, California, where he studied English Literature. After graduation, she got a job in New York at the American Museum of Natural History while teaching nonfiction at Princeton. It was while he was working at the museum that he began writing his first nonfiction work, “Dinosaurs in the Attic.” the work edited by lincoln child then an unknown star in st. martin press. The two became friends during this time and “The Relic,” the first novel in the Agent Pendergast series, was conceived when Preston gave a young boy a tour of the museum. In 1986, he moved to Santa Fe, California to try to become a full-time author. After traveling on horseback with photographer Walter Nelson for more than 1,000 miles on the Exploration Trail through New Mexico and Arizona, he published Cities of Gold in 1992. During this time, he reestablished contact with Lincoln Child and they joined to write “The Relic” which introduced Preston’s most celebrated modern detective, A.X.L. Since then, Pendergast has written more than thirty-five novels on Agent Pendergast, Wyman Ford, and Nora Kelly among several unique titles. Some of Pendergast’s series of novels such as “The Cabinet of Curiosities” are in development for adaptation to film and television series.
preston remains an active journalist and his work on paleontology, history, and archeology has been featured in atlantic, new yorker magazine, harpers, smithsonian, and national geographic, among others. As a journalist, he has had quite a checkered career, as he explored the jungles of Cambodia in search of lost temples and became one of the first people to enter a tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. he is also a member of the Long Riders Guild having ridden thousands of miles across the Southwest on horseback. He is also a prominent organizer in literary circles, as he founded “Authors United” and is one of the co-founders of International Thriller Writers. For his efforts, he has received several awards and recognitions, including a Doctor of Letters from the University of Pomona, his alma mater, a PCA, a National Award, an Edgar, and an NPR Reader, among several others. . he is also a member of the royal geographical society and when he is not reading or writing, he loves hiking, mountain climbing and skiing. He currently splits his time between Maine and New Mexico.

Douglas Preston’s “The Relic” is a story set in a mysterious jungle where a local tribe has just stolen some of its most valuable items. Some cultural anthropologists and archaeologists from the New York Museum of Natural History found the objects that are now being taken home. A few years later, the entire team is dead, but the boxes from the expedition arrived in New York years later. His find will be part of a new exhibit, but once everything is ready, New York begins to experience a series of murders. the creature he is killing has strange claws and no one knows if it is an animal or a human being. The gripping yet hair-raising story follows various museum employees as they try to unravel the mystery of the murderous creature. They are having no success until FBI Agent Pendergast enters the scene. Over the course of a week, it takes the reader through a maze of tunnels under the Big Apple and through rooms filled with dusty old relics as the agent tries to find clues and solve one of the biggest mysteries of his time.
“Locket” by Douglas Preston sees the survivors of the debut novel make a comeback. the monster may have been killed, but a mad scientist’s experiments have resulted in the “crimpers”. these are human-hybrid creatures that are now exponentially increasing in number deep below the surface. The creatures crave the plant life that the expedition team stole from the Brazilian jungles and brought back to New York. The problem isn’t just limited to the underground caverns below the city, as homeless people living in the tunnels suddenly appear dead and headless on the surface. Pendergast soon discovers that when the strange creatures can’t find their favorite plant, they will eat the human hypothalamus above all else. but they have to kill and crack skulls to find this food. He’s a supervillain that will require the combined power of thought of Pendergast and the city officials to root him out.
Douglas Preston’s “Cabinet of Curiosities” opens with the discovery of 36 bodies that had been dismembered under a construction site. the mystery is over a century old and one of the bodies has her address and name sewn into her dress in blood. It seems that the woman knew that death was approaching and she decided to write the details of it on her dress for posterity. Agent Pendergast is interested in the case even though it seems like something more for archaeologists than investigative agents. he seeks out his friend nora de him kelly, an archaeologist who has no idea that working with pendergast could destroy her career, which is already on its last legs. there are powerful dark forces controlling events from the shadows and they have to work hard to collect and protect what little evidence remains to be found. it soon becomes clear that the murders of the last century may be linked to the recent serial murders of someone nicknamed “the surgeon”.
