Edith Wharton was an American author born on January 24, 1862 in New York City. Many of her works have been made into movies, TV movies, and TV series.
Her family was quite wealthy and of three children, she was the youngest. She spent much of her younger years touring Europe with them. when they returned to america, edith would be raised with the best.

edith soon showed that she had a talent for writing. He was only eighteen years old when he wrote his first novella, and also published some of his poetry in the Atlantic Monthly. She was engaged for some time, but then married Edward Wharton.

Although they came from similar backgrounds and both loved to travel, their union did not end up being successful. many of his novels had the theme of an unhappy marriage where work and the demands of love conflict with what society expects.

Not only did he become a successful artist on his own merits, but he also mixed with other artists and writers of the time. She was close friends with Henry James and used to hang out with famous and acclaimed creative people at the time. These included Jack London, Sinclair Lewis, F. scott fitzgerald, andré gide and jean cocteau.
she would divorce her husband edward in 1913. she resided in france for much of her life, it would be the country in which she lived for most of the end of her life and one where she helped organize shelters for refugees in the first war world. it was also the place where she raised funds and put together newspaper articles that she wrote from the front lines of the battlefield. As a result of her work, she received the French Legion of Honor.
