Elizabeth Strout is an American author who writes literary fiction. Born in 1956 in Portland, Maine, to a science teacher (father) and an English teacher (mother), she attended Bates College (Lewiston, Maine) and Syracuse University College of Law, where she earned her J.D. degree.
