“ellery queen” is a pseudonym created by two cousins, frederic dannay and manfred lee. The fictional detective is popularly known as the American celebrity of Whodunit, competing with Nero Wolfe.
frederic dannay was born in 1905 and died in 1982, while manfred was born in 1905 and died in 1971. the cousins are the authors of more than 35 crime novels starring ellery queen. the two cousins wrote many books, hundreds of audio scripts, and dozens of television movies.

In most of the books, the author appears as an amateur detective who shares an apartment with his father, Inspector Richard Queen, who is a member of the New York Homicide Squad. In some of the movies and television, Ellery Queen’s stories didn’t always capture the author’s original concept.
the queen novels can be classified as fair-play mystery, especially considering their golden age of the mystery novel. the story is revealed to the reader in a similar way as the detective learns; therefore, the reader has a fair chance to solve the mystery.

Another important stylistic device used in the books is the killer’s attribute list. lists different characteristics, such as the killer smoking a pipe, the killer being male, etc. Using these attributes, you can analyze different suspects and arrive at a single, often unlikely, name.
In 1938, Ellery Queen joined Hollywood to become a screenwriter, where she began changing characters in the novel. In her scripts, she introduced other characters with the theme of romance, as well as psychological elements. the novels seemed to move from mere puzzles to more introspective themes.

This is Queen Ellery’s fourth mystery novel, published in 1932. The mystery features an elderly and wealthy Greek art dealer, George Khalkis. he dies and after his funeral, it is discovered that his will is missing.
Inspector Richard Queen and his son, an amateur detective, are investigated. Ellery suggests that the will was buried in the coffin with the dead man. the coffin is opened, only to reveal two dead men and no will.
movies and television series:
Most of Ellery Queen’s movies take some liberties with the classic plot, but the story comes out pretty much unscathed. all the films belong to the distributor, who for many years delivered them in truncated form to local television stations. Mysteries featured in the movies include the Mandarin Mystery and the Crime Nobody Saw Mystery. many of the films are considered b-movies, and at times the cast and scripts were less than stellar.
