al bhed core manual locationsdeciphering the side quest

al bhed primers are used to teach you each of the letters of the al bhed language. As you learn each of them, you can begin to decipher their dialogue when they speak to each other or to members of your party.

use the guide and screenshots below to locate and get each of the al bhed primers. you can check the key items section of your inventory to see which ones are missing once. they are obtained in alphabetical order: volume i is for the letter “a”, volume ii is for the letter “b”, and so on.

Unfortunately, there is no way to go back and pick up some of the basic albhed manuals if you missed them. this will be indicated in each of the descriptions below. use the map markers on each of the screenshots to help you find them.

vol. me

The first al bhed primer appears on the back of the salvage ship in the first chapter of the game. you can also get it in the bikanel desert later in the game near where you meet wakka if you missed it on the ship.

Vol. II

This manual can be found inside the Crusader’s shop in the Besaid village. If you forgot this manual, you may not be able to access the village later in the game as it may be locked by dark valefor. you can’t get around the dark valley to enter the town and you will have to defeat him if he has appeared.

Vol. III

The third primer is on board the s.s. liki and can be found in the engine room (with the chocobos). you can also find this manual later in bikanel desert if you missed it.

Vol. IV

The fourth primer can be found in one of the huts in Kilika next to Kulukan (the blitzball player).

Vol. V

the fifth primer can be found on the bridge of the s.s. wincannot be obtained in bikanel desert if you missed it.

Vol. VI

the sixth booklet can be found in the locker room, in front of the locker room of the mentioned uros, below the stadium in luca.

Vol. VII

The seventh primer can be found near the stairs leading to the theater of spheres in luca.

Vol. VIII

rin automatically delivers the eighth manual to tidus when you arrive at rin travel agency along mi’ihen highroad – agency, newroad.

Vol. IX

The 9th Manual can be found along the trail, just after leaving the Rhine Travel Agency, proceeding down the path of the main Mi’ihen road.

Vol. X

The tenth primer is hidden around a secret path that can be found in the Mushroom Rock Path Valley area.

Vol. XI

The eleventh primer is hidden along the djose road, just behind a large pillar. It can be hard to see if you don’t know what you’re looking for, so use the screenshot below to help you find it.

Vol. XII

The twelfth manual can be found in the area north of the lunar flux, after the team has crossed the river in the shoopuf.

Vol. XIII

The thirteenth primer is found inside one of the houses in Guadosalam.

Vol. XIV

rin gives the fourteenth manual to tidus if you tell him that albhed language study is going “well” at rin’s agency in the plains of thunder. you can get this volume in bikanel desert if you miss it.

Vol. XV

The fifteenth primer is found in the macalania woods near the save sphere and near the area where auron makes a hole in the road. may be hard to see, but it’s close to where o’aka xxiii is/was standing.
