george orwell is a pseudonym used by the english author eric arthur blair. born in 1903 in bengal and died in 1950. orwell is known for his fictional novels that have been made into films including various versions in 1984 and the feature film animal farm in 1954.
he attended eton, where he received his education. She served in Burma with the Indian Imperial Police and after finishing she decided to go back to Europe to write and earn money by writing essays and novels.

orwell was a man who focused on politics in his writings and focused his attention on the times he lived in. he was a man who possessed feelings of great passion and intensity. he massively opposed the concept and practice of totalitarianism.
as a result of his political ideas, orwell decided to join the spanish civil war on the side of the loyalists. it was a move many others also made for similar reasons to help the Loyalists win.
george orwell is probably best known to readers who have heard of him for his novel animal farm. if you haven’t heard of it, you’ve just as likely heard of 1984, the immense dystopian classic. this story is about political prophecies coming true and a world that is constantly at war with other parts of itself and changing propaganda to reflect that. With one man pitted against an evil system, can there be any hope of ever finding individuality, or will it be mercilessly eradicated?

orwell became a print writer when his novel burmese days was published in 1934. the novel is based on orwell’s own experiences serving as a policeman in the colonies for imperial forces. he would later also come out with his own study of poverty in two different novels. he would also write an account of his time serving in the civil war.
Burmese Days is a George Orwell novel that takes place in Burma in the days when the empire ruled. This was a time when imperial law was in force and the British were the ones who ruled Burma. A tale of imperial practice of intolerance and corruption taking place almost everywhere, this is a unique read you won’t soon forget.
Things are not going to go well for the main character of this book. John Flory is a lumber merchant and he is also white. He is English, so this would make sense, and his status as part of the British Empire is made clearer by the fact that he lives in an outpost in Burma like so many other countrymen.
even though he’s from europe, john doesn’t really feel like he fits in here. he apparently has no common currency with the other English there or other Europeans present at this outpost. Although John doesn’t have as many friends in this exotic location, he finds that he can finally discover some kind of kinship and strikes up a friendship with a local.
Dr. Veraswami practices medicine and is originally from Burma. even though he is black, he has a positive view of the empire being established in his country. Although Flory likes the doctor very much, it seems that the others have a disapproving eye when it comes to their conversation and friendship. though she’d like to think it’s not because of racism, he clearly is.
john can’t help but be repulsed by their attitudes and their blatant racism. It shouldn’t matter much to anyone who he chooses to be friends with, but it seems the other English don’t think highly of him or this relationship. Even though he doesn’t agree with his views and is disgusted by the way they were exposed, he can only rebel a bit before fading away.
He wants to keep his friendship with the black doctor, but he knows the ridicule probably won’t stop. he definitely feels like he’s an outsider, but what can he do? he decides to get rid of his woes by hiring a mistress from burma and also deciding to drink a lot of gin at the same time. he doesn’t know how he’s going to end this, but he doesn’t have a good feeling about it.

Flory gets excited when someone finally appears on the scene who seems interesting. elizabeth lackersteen is beautiful and truly a wonderful young lady. when she arrives, he takes an interest in her and thinks that maybe this is finally her chance to get out of her pit of loneliness. maybe she is just what he needs and the merchant decides to woo her.
It may still seem like she doesn’t return your interest. Flory also doesn’t naturally have the ability to date and is a bit clumsy in his pursuit of her. when a corrupt local magistrate ends up plotting, anything can happen and go wrong.
Meanwhile, your doctor friend is in a bind unless he can get membership in a very exclusive club that only includes white people. this original novel is a commentary on imperialism and racism, check out this book for yourself.
