h.p. Mallory is an American novelist of paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels. She is famous for being the author of the best-selling series Jolie Wilkins and Dulcie O’Neil. The author started out as a freelance author, and her success came almost “overnight” and she worked her way up to becoming a USA Today and New York Times best-selling author. Mallory admits that she is a die-hard fan of the paranormal and loves watching the Twilight Zone marathons, and in addition to this, she also likes to travel and has lived in both Scotland and England. Mallory became a published author in 2010 when her first book in the Dulcie O’Neil series, To Kill a Warlock, was published. Later that year, she published Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, which marked the beginning of her second series of novels, Jolie Wilkins.

in the first book of the dulcie o’neil series, the author introduces dulcie o’neil, a fairy, she is not the type you will find playing in the garden, but she is a regulator, a law enforcement officer who protects the creatures of the underworld and discourages them from wreaking havoc in the mortal world. When a warlock is brutally murdered and Dulcie was the last person to see him alive, she must find out what exactly happened to the wizard before she becomes the killer’s next victim or is deported to the underworld.

Meet Knight Vander, the handsome investigator sent from the underworld to help Dulcie solve the case and find the killer. Between confronting her attraction to her spouse, repelling the advances of a powerful vampire, and keeping a malicious demon at bay, Dulcie has her hands full. As her body count mounts, she finds herself battling dark magic, exploring S&M clubs, and facing the ultimate betrayal.

The first novel in the series is an interesting read and well crafted. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this book is the characters, especially the main character, Dulcie. the overall tone of the novel is intriguing and comfortable, while the first-person perspective narration has a light conversational style. dulcie is a cute character; she is smart funny and does what she does to her best. somehow the main character is also vulnerable like any other person as she possesses insecurities or two. you’ll love her minor quirks about her, for example, during the day she’s a tough cop, while at night she’s an aspiring romance writer.

The novel also features a variety of supernatural species such as vampires, fairies, werewolves, elves, trolls, goblins, and many others that you’ve probably never heard of before. the novel’s mystery is well executed with some twists and turns, while the pacing is excellent and consistent throughout. If you like bits of romance in a supernatural species tale, then this novel is for you. there is a love triangle between our main character, which includes dulcie, a vampire named bram, his boss quillan and knight. The romance is satisfying, as Dulcie admits that she shares some sort of attraction to each of them.

a tale of two goblins

A tale of two elves, the second novel in the series takes us back into the action with the most beloved sweet fairy. the first book in the series ended after she left the underworld creature association after the outcome of the last case she was working on. but she has now agreed to serve as a consultant to the a.n.s hoping to have some time to heal from the backlash she suffered in the first installment of the series and also have more time to work on her current novel.

knight approaches her about a case involving a possible dream stalker who has rendered several victims unconscious and trapped them between life and death. when dulcie discovers that she has a connection to all the victims, she worries that this act might be personal and immediately agrees to help. Over the course of this case, Dulce will have to make some tough decisions and always stay one step ahead of the Dreamstalker if she wants to survive.

The second novel in this urban fantasy series is full of suspense and action just like the first book in the series. Events take some twisted turns as Dulcie is faced with some tough decisions to save the people held captive by the Dreamcatcher.

In the third novel, dulcie has only one goal in mind: to save her handsome boyfriend, the knight, from a crime he didn’t commit. He has been taken to the underworld, a place where all creatures in the world are destined to be judged because of his confession that he let a criminal escape just to cover up for his girlfriend, dulcie. On her journey to the underworld, Dulcie is accompanied by the handsome vampire Bram as her escort and may bear the blame for the crime. But things go wrong and now she will have to save both Bram and her boyfriend, the knight. Will she finally save both the man she loves and her escort? Or will she finally fail her and she will be trapped in holland for eternity?

Dulcie O’Neil’s series is wonderful, the novels are quite addictive, and the main character, dulcie, is quite an engaging heroine whose internal dialogue will break you one minute and have you hooked the next. she is a character that will keep you on your toes, her co-workers and her friends are vital parts of this series and thus make it a lot of fun.
