Stuck trying to find out who is the immortal mother in the witcher season 2? the first season of the witcher was sometimes difficult to follow due to the changes in the timelines. the immortal mother witch: who is voleth meir?

Spoilers for the Season 2 finale ahead.

voleth meir, or the immortal mother as she is also known, does not appear in the games or the books. so no matter how extensive your knowledge of witch lore is, that won’t help you here. the character/entity was created for the show and is loosely based on versions of popular folklore involving a witch living alone in a house in the woods; She thinks of Hansel and Gretel, but without the gingerbread. And this particular witch feeds on misery instead of children.

voleth meir, also known as the immortal mother, is a demon that was drawn to the mainland with the conjunction. the first warlocks trapped her in her hut beneath an elven ruin in the north, but she managed to communicate with others in her dreams.

he sent yen to find ciri because he knew of her power to break monoliths and teleport between realms; basically, ciri’s power was the only way he knew to get back home. Of course, if he had managed to still possess Ciri when they teleported away, he too would have managed to bring the eldest bloodborn to join the wild hunt. either that or get the means to bring the wild game to the mainland.

episode 2 (opens in a new tab) is where we first see the immortal mother. She goes to Yennefer, Fringilla, and the elf leader, Francesca in her dreams and offers each of them what they want most, as long as they do something for her in return. For Yennefer, it’s to win back Chaos from her, Fringilla wants to lead Nilfgaard to victory, and Francesca wants her unborn baby to live. This leads to an alliance between Nilfgaard and the elves, which Fringilla and Francesca jointly lead. At the same time, Yennefer apparently rejects her offer and instead is left powerless and unable to use Chaos.

Meanwhile, Eskel returns to Kaer Morhen, just as Geralt and Ciri arrive. he has been injured by a leshy, which somehow infected him and turned him into a monster, so geralt and vesemir must finish him off. he seems unrelated at first, but bear with me.

In episode 3 (opens in a new tab), we see geralt realize that the monster that killed eskel somehow attracts ciri, and he encourages her to use her power to help guide him to it. . They find the Leshy, but it is immediately killed by an unknown beast, which Geralt quickly takes care of. it is here that the discovery is made that the monster contains traces of stelacite.

In episode 4 (opens in a new tab), geralt notices that eskel, or the monster he became, also contains traces of stelacite, which turns out to be a material found in monoliths. Meanwhile, Vesemir discovers a rare flower growing around the training grounds: a plant that only grows where old blood has been shed, the true meaning of Ciri begins to come to light.

Episode 5 (Opens in a new tab) gives us another glimpse of the immortal mother as she once again visits Yen in his dreams. this time, fed up with being powerless, she relents and travels to the cabin. Voleth Meir offers Yen her powers on the condition that she brings Ciri to the cabin in return. she agrees.

Elsewhere, Geralt and Istredd theorize that the Monoliths could be conduits or gateways to other realms, thus finding new breeds of monsters seemingly linked to them. And back in Kaer Morhen, Triss helps Ciri discover her past. Using magic, they discover that she is a descendant of Lara Dorren, a powerful elven mage, and that Ithlinne’s prophecy apparently refers to Ciri as a ‘daughter of chaos’.

Disturbed by what she has discovered and Triss’s horrified reaction, Ciri screams for Geralt, and both he and Istredd hear her. a new monster emerges, confirming that the structures scattered across the continent really do act as gateways for those powerful enough to use them.

geralt and ciri hit the road again in episode 6 (opens in a new tab). Ciri helps Geralt eliminate the winged Stelacite monster that escaped from the monolith site in episode 5 and tells the witcher that he didn’t think he wanted to hurt her.

yen meets geralt and ciri in the temple of melitele. A fire mage attacks and Geralt stops him while Ciri and Yen escape through a portal.

Things get even more tense in episode 7 (opens in a new tab) when Ciri displays teleportation powers. she then finds out that yen was going to betray her, but lures the Nilfgaardians to her location. Fortunately, Geralt arrives in time to save them, but they soon discover that the immortal mother has broken free from the hut, finally taking enough heartbreak from the death of Francesca’s baby.

Sensing Ciri’s power, Voleth Meir possesses her as the party returns to Kaer Morhen.

In the final episode (opens in a new tab) of the season, we find out what the immortal mother was after all along. But not before she, like Ciri, wreaks havoc within Kaer Morhen. she breaks the medallion tree, revealing the monolith inside, and breaks it to create a portal where she brings monsters from another realm to deal with the remaining warlocks.

ciri tries to fight the possession, but the immortal mother needs a vessel to inhabit. yennefer accepts the challenge in what is possibly her most selfless act. Once Ciri is free, Geralt instructs her to send Voleth Meir back to the Monolith to catch her. she opens a portal and the three of them are drawn into a strange land. the immortal mother then leaves yen’s body and joins the wild hunt, which the three can see riding towards them. the horsemen begin to call out for ciri to join them as the ‘starry-eyed daughter of chaos’. Ciri saves them by teleporting them back to the mainland.
