about james allen

James Allen (November 28, 1864 – January 24, 1912) was a British philosophical writer known for his inspirational books and poetry and as a pioneer of the self-help movement. His best-known work, As a Man Thinks, has been mass-produced since its publication in 1903. It has been a source of inspiration for self-help and motivational authors.

born in leicester, england, into a working-class family, allen was the eldest of two brothers. his mother could not read or write. his father, william, was a weaver in a factory. In 1879, following a downturn in the textile trade of central England, Allen’s father traveled alone to America to find work and establish a new home for the family. Two days after arriving, his father was pronounced dead at a New York City hospital, believed to be a robbery-murder case. At fifteen, with the family now facing financial disaster, Allen was forced to drop out of school and

work

.

For much of the 1890s, Allen worked as a private secretary and stationer for various British manufacturing firms. In 1893, Allen moved to London and then to South Wales, earning a living from journalism and reporting. in south wales he met lily louisa oram (lily l. allen) whom he married in 1895. in 1898 allen found an occupation in which he could show his spiritual and social interests as a writer for the magazine the herald of the Golden age. At this time, Allen entered a creative period in which he later published the first of many books, From Rag to Power (1901). In 1902 Allen began publishing his own spiritual magazine, The Light of Reason, later renamed Epoch.

in 1903 allen published his third and most famous book as a man thinks. Loosely based on the biblical passage Proverbs 23:7, As a man thinks in his heart, so is he, the little work was eventually read around the world, earning Allen posthumous fame as one of the pioneering figures of inspirational thought. modern. The book’s smaller audience allowed Allen to quit her secretarial job and pursue a career as a writer and editor. In 1903, the Allen family retired to the village of Ilfracombe where Allen would spend the rest of his life. Continuing the publishing era, Allen produced more than one book a year until his death in 1912. There he wrote for nine years, producing 19 works.

After his death in 1912, his wife continued to publish the magazine under the name Época. Lily Allen summed up her husband’s literary mission in the preface to one of her posthumously published manuscripts, Cornerstones for Happiness and Success, saying:

he never wrote theories, or to write; but he wrote when he had a message, and it became a message only when he had lived it in his own life and knew it was good. he thus he wrote down facts, which he had proved by practice.

or the realization of prosperity and peace

prologue

I looked at the world around me and saw that it was shadowed by pain and burned by the fierce fires of suffering. and I looked for the cause. I looked around me, but I couldn’t find it; I looked in the books, but couldn’t find it; I looked within and found there both the cause and the very nature of that cause. I looked again, and deeper, and found the remedy.

I found a law, the law of love; a life, the life of adjustment to that law; a truth, the truth of a conquered mind and a calm and obedient heart. and he dreamed of writing a book that would help men and women, rich or poor, learned or ignorant, worldly or unworldly, to find within themselves the source of all success, all happiness, all achievement, all truth. and the dream stayed with me, and finally became substantial; and now I send it out into the world on its mission of healing and blessing, knowing that it cannot fail to reach the homes and hearts of those who are waiting and ready to

the lesson

of

wrong

restlessness, pain and sadness are the shadows of life. there is no heart in all the world that has not felt the sting of pain, no mind that has not been cast into the dark waters of anguish, no eye that has not shed the hot, blinding tears of unspeakable anguish.

There is no home where the great destroyers, illness and death, have not entered, separating heart from heart, and throwing over all the dark mantle of pain. in the strong and seemingly indestructible meshes of evil, everything is more or less trapped, and pain, unhappiness and misfortune lie in wait for humanity.

In order to escape, or in some way mitigate this darkness that overshadows them, men and women blindly rush into innumerable contraptions, paths along which they eagerly hope to enter a happiness that does not

pass

out

.

Such are the drunkard and the harlot, who delight in sensual excitements; such is the exclusive esthete, who withdraws himself from the sorrows of the world, and surrounds himself with enervating luxuries; such is he who thirsts for wealth or fame, and subordinates all things to the attainment of that object; and such are the ones who seek consolation in the performance of religious rites.

and the sought-after happiness seems to come to everyone, and the soul, for a time, lulls into a sweet security, and in an intoxicating forgetfulness of the existence of evil; but the day of sickness comes at last, or some great pain, temptation, or misfortune suddenly breaks into the unfortified soul, and the fabric of its imagined happiness is torn to pieces.

thus, over the head of all personal joy hangs the damocletian sword of pain, ready, at any moment, to fall and crush the soul of those who are not protected by knowledge.

the child cries to be a man or a woman; man and woman sigh for the lost happiness of childhood. the poor chafe under the chains of poverty that bind them, and the rich often live in fear of poverty, or wander the world in search of an elusive shadow he calls happiness.

sometimes the soul feels that it has found secure peace and happiness by adopting a certain religion, embracing an intellectual philosophy, or building an intellectual or artistic ideal; but some overwhelming temptation proves that religion is inadequate or insufficient; theoretical philosophy turns out to be a useless prop; or at one point, the idealistic statue the devotee has been working on for years, shatters into

your

feet

.

Is there, then, no way to escape the pain and sadness? Are there no means by which the bonds of evil can be broken? Is permanent happiness, secure prosperity, and lasting peace a foolish dream?

no, there is a way, and I speak it with joy, by which evil can be exterminated forever; there is a process by which illness, poverty, or any adverse condition or circumstance can be set aside never to return; there is a method by which permanent prosperity can be secured, free from all fear of the return of adversity, and there is a practice by which uninterrupted and endless peace and bliss can be engaged in and realized.

and the beginning of the path that leads to this glorious realization is the acquisition of a correct understanding of nature

.

It is not enough to deny or ignore evil; must be understood. it is not enough to pray to God to remove evil; you must find out why it is there, and what lesson it has

you

.

it is useless to get angry, irritated and irritated with the chains that bind them; you must know why and how you are bound. therefore, reader, you must come out of yourself and begin to examine and understand yourself.

You must stop being a disobedient child in the school of experience and you must begin to learn, with humility and patience, the lessons that are ready for your edification and ultimate perfection; for evil, when properly understood, is not an unlimited power or principle in the universe, but a passing phase of human experience, and thus becomes a teacher to those who are willing to learn.

evil is not something abstract outside of yourself; it is an experience in your own heart, and by patiently examining and rectifying your heart, you will gradually be led to the discovery of the origin and nature of evil, which will necessarily be followed by its complete eradication.

every evil is corrective and reparative, and therefore not permanent. it has its roots in ignorance, ignorance of the true nature and relationship of things, and as long as we remain in that state of ignorance, we will remain subject

to

evil

.

there is no evil in the universe that is not the result of ignorance and that, if we were ready and willing to learn its lesson, it would not lead us to a higher wisdom and then disappear. but men remain in evil, and it does not happen because men are not willing or prepared to learn the lesson at which it came

I knew a boy who, every night when his mother put him to bed, cried to be allowed to play with the candle; and one night, when the mother was a moment unprepared, the child seized the candle; the inevitable result followed, and the boy never wanted to play with the candle again.

by his foolish act he learned, and perfectly learned the lesson of obedience, and entered into the knowledge that fire burns. and this incident is a full illustration of the nature, meaning, and end result of all sin

and

evil

.

Just as the child suffered from his own ignorance of the true nature of fire, so older children suffer from their ignorance of the true nature of the things they cry and strive for, and which hurt them when they are secured ; the only difference is that in the latter case the ignorance and evil are more deeply rooted and darker.

evil has always been symbolized by darkness, and good by light, and hidden within the symbol is the perfect interpretation, reality; For just as light always floods the universe, and darkness is but a mere speck or shadow cast by a small body that intercepts some rays of unlimited light, so the light of the highest good is the positive and life-giving power that floods the universe, and evil the insignificant shadow projected by the self that intercepts and extinguishes the light rays that struggle to enter.

when the night envelops the world in its impenetrable black blanket, no matter how thick the darkness, it covers only the small space of half of our little planet, while the whole universe is ablaze with living light, and every soul you know you will. I wake up in the morning light.

Know, then, that when the dark night of sorrow, pain, or misfortune settles over your soul, and you stumble on weary, uncertain footsteps, you are merely intercepting your own personal desires between yourself and the limitless light. of joy and bliss, and the dark shadow that covers you is cast by no one and nothing but yourself.

and just as the outer darkness is nothing more than a negative shadow, an unreality that comes from nowhere, goes nowhere and has no permanent place of residence, so the inner darkness is likewise a negative shadow passing over evolution and

born of light

soul

.

but, I seem to hear someone say, why go through the darkness of evil? because, out of ignorance, you have chosen to do so, and because by doing so, you can understand both good and evil, and appreciate the light more by having passed through the darkness.

Just as evil is the direct result of ignorance, so when the lessons of evil are fully learned, ignorance disappears and wisdom takes its place. but as a disobedient child refuses to learn his lessons at school, so it is possible to refuse to learn the lessons of experience, and thus remain in continual darkness, and continually suffer recurring punishments in the form of sickness, disappointment, and pain. .

he, therefore, who wants to free himself from the evil that surrounds him, must be willing and ready to learn, and must be prepared to submit to that disciplinary process without which no grain of wisdom or happiness can be secured and lasting peace. .

A man can lock himself in a dark room and deny that light exists, but it is everywhere outside, and darkness exists only on its own

so that you turn off the light of truth, or begin to break down the walls of prejudice, selfishness and error that you have built around you, and thus let in the glorious and omnipresent light.

Through earnest self-examination, strive to realize, and not merely hold it as a theory, that evil is a passing phase, a self-created shadow; that all your pains, sorrows and misfortunes have come to you through a process of unbreakable and absolutely perfect law; they have come to you because you deserve and require them, and so that first enduring them and then understanding them, you can make yourself stronger, wiser, nobler.

When you have fully entered into this realization, you will be able to shape your own circumstances, to transmute all evil into good and to weave, with a master’s hand, the plot of your destiny.

morning comes, lover of light; even now he gilds the forehead of the mountain with gold, I dimly see the path on which even now his resplendent feet walk into the night.

darkness will pass away, and all things that love darkness and hate light will disappear forever with the night: rejoice! for so sings the swift herald.

the world a reflection of mental states

what you are, so is your world. everything in the universe resolves itself into your own inner experience. It matters little what is outside, because everything is a reflection of your own state of consciousness.

whatever you are inside matters, because everything outside will be reflected and colored accordingly.

everything you know positively is contained in your own experience; everything you will ever know must pass through the door of experience, and thus become part of yourself.

your own thoughts, desires and aspirations comprise your world and, for you, everything in the universe of beauty, joy and happiness, or ugliness, sadness and pain, is contained within yourself.

with your own thoughts you make or break your life, your world, your universe, as you build within with the power of thought, your outer life and circumstances will be shaped accordingly.

whatever you harbor in the innermost chambers of your heart, sooner or later, by the inevitable law of reaction, will take shape in your

the soul that is impure, sordid and selfish, is gravitating with infallible precision towards misfortune and catastrophe; the soul that is pure, selfless and noble gravitates with equal precision towards happiness and prosperity.

Each soul attracts its own, and nothing can reach it that does not belong to it. to realize this is to recognize the universality of

divine

.

The incidents of every human life, which both make it and mar it, are drawn to the quality and power of your own inner mental life. each soul is a complex combination of experiences and thoughts put together, and the body is nothing more than an improvised vehicle for its manifestation.

what, therefore, are your thoughts, that is your real self; and the world around you, both animate and inanimate, wears the look with which your thoughts

everything we are is the result of what we have thought. it is founded on our thoughts; it is made of our thoughts. Thus said Buddha, and therefore it follows that if a man is happy, it is because he dwells on happy thoughts; if he is miserable, because he dwells in dejected and debilitating thoughts,

Whether one is fearful or fearless, foolish or wise, troubled or serene, within that soul lies the cause of its own state or states, and never without. and now I seem to hear a chorus of voices exclaim, but do you really mean that external circumstances do not affect our minds? I’m not saying that, but I’m saying this, and I know it’s an infallible truth, that circumstances can only affect you as much as you allow it to

make

then

.

You allow yourself to be influenced by circumstances because you do not have a correct understanding of the nature, use and power of thought.

you believe (and on this little word belief hang all our joys and sorrows) that external things have the power to make or mar your life; by doing so you submit to those external things, you confess that you are their slave, and they are your unconditional masters; in doing so, you invest them with a power they themselves do not possess, and you succumb, in truth, not to mere circumstances, but to the melancholy or joy, fear or hope, strength or weakness, that your sphere of thought has thrown

I met two men who, at a young age, lost years of hard-earned savings. one was deeply disturbed and gave way to disgust, worry and discouragement.

the other, reading in the morning paper that the bank where he deposited his money had gone hopelessly bankrupt and that he had lost everything, commented in a low, firm voice: “well, it’s over, and the problems and worries will come.” t bring it back, but hard

went to work with renewed vigor and quickly became prosperous, while the old man, still lamenting the loss of his money and complaining of his “bad luck”, remained the sport and the tool of circumstance adverse, actually from their own weak and servile thoughts.

the loss of money was a curse for one because he dressed the event with dark and gloomy thoughts; it was a blessing for the other, because he threw around him thoughts of strength, hope and renewed effort.

if circumstances had the power to bless or harm, they would bless and harm all men alike, but the fact that the same circumstances are equally good and bad for different souls proves that good or evil is not in the circumstance, but only in the mind of the one who

encounters

it

.

When you begin to realize this, you will begin to control your thoughts, regulate and discipline your mind, and rebuild the inner temple of your soul, eliminating all useless and superfluous material, and incorporating into your being thoughts only of joy and serenity. , of strength and life, of compassion and love, of beauty and immortality; and by doing this you will become joyful and serene, strong and healthy, compassionate and loving, and beautiful with the beauty of immortality.

And just as we dress events in the clothes of our own thoughts, we also dress the objects of the visible world that surrounds us, and where one sees harmony and beauty, another sees disgusting ugliness.

An enthusiastic naturalist was wandering the country roads one day in search of his hobby and, during his walks, he came across a pond of brackish water near a corral.

As he proceeded to fill a small bottle with the water in order to examine it under the microscope, he lingered, more enthusiastically than discreetly, on an uneducated son of the plow nearby, on the hidden and innumerable wonders contained in the pool, and concluded by saying: “yes, my friend, within this pool there are a hundred, nay, a million universes, if we had the sense or the instrument by which we could apprehend them.” and the unsophisticated commented heavily, I know the water is full of tadpoles, but they are easy to catch.”

For many, the ocean is nothing more than a gloomy expanse of water in which ships sail and sometimes shipwreck; to the soul of the musician it is a living thing, and he hears, in all its changes of mood, divine harmonies.

And just as we clothe both events and objects with our own thoughts, so we clothe the souls of others with the garments of our thoughts.

suspects believe that everyone suspects; the liar feels safe in thinking that he is not foolish enough to believe such a phenomenon exists as a strictly truthful person; the envious see envy in every soul; the miser thinks that everyone is eager to get money from him; he who has subordinated conscience in the making of his wealth, sleeps with a revolver under his pillow, wrapped in the illusion that the world is full of conscienceless people who are eager to rob him, and the abandoned sensualist looks at the saint as a hypocrite.

on the other hand, those who dwell in loving thoughts, see that in everything that arouses their love and sympathy; the trusting and honest are not disturbed by suspicion; The kind and charitable ones who rejoice at the good fortune of others hardly know what envy means; and whoever has realized the divine within himself, recognizes it in all beings, even in beasts.

and men and women are confirmed in their mental perspective due to the fact that, by the law of cause and effect, they attract to themselves what they send out, and thus come into contact with people similar to themselves.

every condition of life is therefore linked in an orderly and harmonious sequence, and the secret and cause of each condition is contained within itself, the law, whatever man sows, that he will also reap , is inscribed in burning letters on the portal of eternity, and no one can deny it, no one can deceive him, no one can

and precisely the same law governs the realm of the mind. hate, anger, jealousy, envy, lust, covetousness, these are all fires that burn, and anyone who touches them will suffer the torments of burning.

all these conditions of the mind are rightly called evil, because they are the efforts of the soul to subvert, in its ignorance, the law, and therefore lead to inner chaos and confusion, and sooner or later actualize in external circumstances such as illness, failure, and misfortune, along with sorrow, pain, and despair.

while love, sweetness, good will, purity, are refreshing winds that breathe peace into the soul that afflicts them, and, being in harmony with the eternal law, are actualized in the form of health, peaceful environment and unshakeable success and good fortune.

A deep understanding of this great law that pervades the universe leads to the acquisition of that state of mind known as obedience.

to know that justice, harmony and love are supreme in the universe is equally to know that all adverse and painful conditions are the result of our own disobedience to

it

law

.

Such knowledge leads to strength and power, and it is only on such knowledge that true life and lasting success and happiness can be built.

To be patient in all circumstances and to accept all conditions as necessary factors in your training, is to rise above all painful conditions and overcome them with an overcoming that is sure and does not fear its return, for by the power of obedience to the law are completely killed.

such an obedient one is working in harmony with the law, in fact, he has identified himself with the law, and whatever he conquers he conquers forever, whatever he builds can never be destroyed.

The cause of all power, as of all weakness, is within; the secret of all happiness as of all misery is equally within.

There is no progress apart from inner development, and there is no secure foothold for prosperity or peace except by orderly advancement in knowledge.

You say you’re chained by circumstances; you cry out for better opportunities, for a greater range, for better physical conditions, and perhaps inside you curse the fate that ties your hand

It is for you that I write; It is you I am speaking to. listen, and let my words burn in your heart, because what I tell you is true:

you can achieve that improved condition in your outer life that you desire, if you unswervingly resolve to improve your

internal

life

.

I know that this road seems barren at first (the truth always seems that way, it is only error and illusion that are attractive and fascinating at first), but if you set out to walk it; if you discipline your mind with perseverance, eradicating your weaknesses and allowing your soul forces and spiritual powers to develop, you will be amazed at the magical changes that will take place in your

life

.

As you advance, golden opportunities will be scattered your way, and the power and judgment to use them correctly will arise within you. cool friends will come to you spontaneously; sympathetic souls will be drawn to you like a needle to a magnet; and the books and all the external aids you need will come to you without your seeking them.

perhaps the chains of poverty hang heavy upon you, and you are lonely and friendless, and long with an intense longing for your load to be lightened; but the charge continues, and you seem to be enveloped in a deepening darkness.

perhaps you complain, you regret your luck; you blame your birth, your parents, your employer, or the unjust powers that have conferred upon you such undeserved poverty and hardship, and other opulence

and

ease

.

stop complaining and worrying; none of these things that you blame is the cause of your poverty; the cause is within you, and where the cause is, there is the remedy.

The mere fact that you’re a complainer shows that you deserve your fate; it shows that you lack that faith which is the basis of all effort and progress.

There is no place for a complainer in a universe of laws, and worry is the suicide of the soul. by your very mental attitude you are strengthening the chains that bind you, and you are attracting around you the darkness that surrounds you, alter your perspective of life, and your outer life will change.

Build yourself up in faith and knowledge, and make yourself worthy of better surroundings and wider opportunities. make sure you’re getting the most out of what

Don’t be fooled into assuming that you can gain larger advantages while overlooking smaller ones, because if you could, the advantage would be impermanent and you would quickly fall back to learn the lesson you had neglected.

Just as a child in school must master one standard before moving on to the next, so before you can have that greater good you so desire, you must faithfully employ what you already possess.

The parable of the talents is a beautiful story that illustrates this truth, for doesn’t it clearly show that if we misuse, neglect, or degrade what we possess, however petty and insignificant, even that little bit will be taken from us, because , by our conduct we show that we are unworthy

positively there is no way to rise permanently above poverty, or any undesirable condition, except by eradicating those selfish and negative internal conditions, of which they are the reflection, and by virtue of which they continue.

The path to true wealth is to enrich the soul through the acquisition of virtue. outside of the true virtue of the heart there is neither prosperity nor power, but only the appearances of these. I am aware that money is made by men who have not acquired any measure of virtue, and have little desire to do so; but such money does not constitute true riches, and its possession is transient and feverish.

here is david’s testimony:- because i was envious of fools when i saw the prosperity of the wicked… his eyes bulged with fat; They have more than the heart could desire. – truly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence… when I thought to know this it was too painful for me; until I entered the sanctuary of god, then I understood that

the prosperity of the wicked was a great test for david until he entered the sanctuary of god, and then he met

your

finish

.

You too can enter that sanctuary. it is within you. it is that state of consciousness which remains when all that is sordid, personal and impermanent is lifted above and universal and eternal principles are realized.

that is the divine state of consciousness; it is the sanctuary of the most high. when, by long struggle and self-discipline, you have managed to enter the door of that holy temple, you will perceive, with an unobstructed vision, the end and the fruit of all human thought and effort, both good

and

evil

.

then you will no longer relax your faith when you see the immoral man accumulating external riches, because you will know that it is necessary for him to return to poverty and degradation.

The rich man who is barren of virtue is, in reality, poor, and as surely as the waters of the river drift towards the ocean, so surely he, in the midst of all his riches, goes to the drift towards poverty and misfortune; and even if he dies rich, he must return to reap the bitter fruit of all his immorality.

and even if he becomes rich many times, he must be thrown back into poverty many other times, until, through long experience and suffering, he overcomes inner poverty.

but the man who is poor outwardly, but rich in virtue, is truly rich, and, in the midst of all his poverty, surely walks towards prosperity; and abundance of joy and bliss await his coming. if he wishes to become truly and permanently prosperous, he must first become virtuous.

Therefore, it is not wise to aim directly at prosperity, to make it the only goal in life, to try to pursue it greedily, to do this is to ultimately defeat yourself.

but aim rather at your own perfection, make useful and disinterested service the object of your life, and always extend the hands of faith towards the supreme and

unalterable

good

.

You say you want wealth, not for your own good, but to do good with it and bless others. if this is your true motive for desiring wealth, then wealth will come to you; because you are strong and selfless if, in the midst of riches, you are willing to consider yourself a steward and not an owner.

but examine your motive well, because in most cases where money is desired for the admitted object of blessing others, the real underlying motive is love of popularity and the desire to pass for a philanthropist or a reformer .

if you’re not doing good with what little you have, you can be sure that the more money you have, the more selfish you’ll become, and all the good you seemed to do with your money, if you tried to do anything, it would be so much self-praise insinuating.

if your true desire is to do good, there is no need to wait for the money before doing it; you can do it now, at this very moment, and right where you are. if you really are as selfless as you think you are, you will prove it by sacrificing yourself for

other

now

.

No matter how poor you are, there is room for self-sacrifice, because didn’t the widow throw everything into the ark?

The heart that truly desires to do good does not wait for the money to do it, but arrives at the altar of sacrifice and, leaving there the unworthy elements of itself, goes out and blows on neighbor and stranger, friend and foe alike. Same. the breath of bliss.

just as the effect is related to the cause, prosperity and power are related to the inner good and poverty and weakness to the

inward

evil

.

Money is not true wealth, position, or power, and relying on it alone is stepping on a slippery spot.

Your true wealth is your stock of virtue, and your true power is the uses you put to it. rectify your heart, and you will rectify your life. lust, hatred, anger, vanity, pride, covetousness, self-indulgence, selfishness, obstinacy, all these are poverty and weakness; while love, purity, meekness, meekness, compassion, generosity, self-forgetfulness and self-renunciation, are wealth and power.

as the elements of poverty and weakness are overcome, an irresistible and conquering power is developed from within, and he who succeeds in establishing himself in the highest virtue, brings the whole world to

perhaps you are an employer, and you have endless problems with those you employ, and when you get good and faithful servants, they quickly leave you. as a result, he is beginning to lose, or has completely lost, his faith in human nature.

The secret of all your affliction is not in your servants, it is in yourself; and if you look within, with a humble and sincere desire to discover and eradicate your error, sooner or later you will find the origin of all your misfortunes.

It can be a selfish desire, a lurking suspicion or an unpleasant mental attitude that sends its poison on those around you and reacts on yourself, even if you don’t show it in your manner or the way you speak.

Think of your servants with kindness, consider them that extreme service that you yourself would not bother to perform if you were in their place.

Rare and beautiful is that humility of soul by which a servant forgets himself entirely for the good of his master; but much rarer, and beautiful with a divine beauty, is that nobility of soul by which a man, forgetting his own happiness, seeks the happiness of those who are under his authority, and who depend on him for their survival. bodily sustenance from him.

and the happiness of such a man is multiplied by ten, and he need not complain about those whom he employs. Said a well-known, large employer of labor, who never needs to fire an employee: “I have always had the happiest relationships with my workers.

If you ask me how it should be accounted for, I can only say that it has been my goal from the beginning to do with them what I would like them to do to me. The conditions are assured, and everything that is undesirable is overcome.

you say that you are alone and without love, and that you don’t have a friend in the world? So I beg you, for the sake of your own happiness, don’t blame anyone but yourself.

Whatever the conditions that make your life a burden, you can get out of them and overcome them by developing and using within yourself the transformative power of self-purification and self-conquest.

either the poverty that irritates (and remember that the poverty I have been dwelling on is the poverty that is the source of misery, and not the voluntary poverty that is the glory of emancipated souls), or the riches that overwhelm , or the many misfortunes, pains and annoyances that form the dark bottom in the web of life, you can overcome them by overcoming the selfish elements within which they give

Neither does it follow that if a man (reaping what he has sown) must lose money or lose position, he must also lose his strength or lose his righteousness, and it is in this that his wealth and power and happiness are to be found. he who clings to himself is his own enemy and is surrounded by enemies.

he who renounces himself is his own savior, and is surrounded by friends like a protective belt. before the divine radiance of a pure heart, all darkness vanishes and all clouds vanish, and he who has conquered himself has conquered the universe.

The most powerful forces in the universe are the silent forces; and according to the intensity of its power, a force becomes beneficial when rightly directed, and destructive when wrongly employed.
