British writer Jasper Fforde has been crafting his unique brand of idiosyncratic fantasy fiction for some time now. early years and personal life
Born January 11, 1961, British novelist Jasper Fforde grew up in London, where he spent much of his childhood formulating many of his ideas. the son of a certain john standish fforde, who was well known for his position as the twenty-fourth chief cashier stationed at the bank of england, managed to have his signature affixed to the pound sterling notes. From this background, Jasper Fforde began as a writer, with his lifelong passion for literature being nurtured from an early age.

Attending dartington hall school he had a very progressive upbringing, allowing his talents to flourish from an early age. developing his skills as a writer early on, he built and honed his craft, creating a unique and distinctive voice. Later, working as a film shooter within the industry, he managed to get involved in some big productions, such as the James Bond movie Goldeneye. Separating itself from the following Thursday series, although set in the same universe, this novel was originally published in 2005 on January 1st through penguin publishing house. employing his trademark wit and irreverence once again, this time he establishes a new series set within the “child crimes” division, this being the first entry. with more to come, this helped set a new tone with new characters, while maintaining ties to the original series and expanding on the installments throughout.

Introducing Inspector Jack Spratt who has been stationed in the nursery crime division, it is his job to track down any crime of a literary nature that happens in the world of fiction, such as Thursday’s nest before him. the difference here is that he focuses on classic children’s literature and children’s stories, solving the crimes within their pages and getting to the bottom of the case. literally delving into the pages of each book, he works alongside his partner mary mary in this fantastic take on the whodunit. With his first case here, he has to deal with the mysterious death of Humpty Dumpty, an egg that has fallen out of a wall, and the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Did he just fall by himself or was he pushed by someone with the intention of hurting him, and if so, what would they gain from his big fall? Will Spratt be able to solve the case? who would throw an egg off a wall? What will become of them if it is easy for them to be big?
the last dragon slayer
Starting the beginning of his “kazam chronicles” series on January 1, 2010, this novel saw the introduction of a new fantasy world with humor and fun. With his now well-regarded wit and intelligence, Jasper Fforde tackles a new series of books and a new series of themes, with his own characters and protagonists. providing a new style and tone, not without the comic irreverence fforde’s audience has come to appreciate over the years, offering a new vibe and atmosphere to the pacing of the books.
Starting with the story of jennifer strange, a fifteen year old girl who runs an employment agency dedicated to wizards, how she manages the ‘kazam’ agency is told. her problem is that the magic is wearing off, leaving her without much work and many clients, as she begins to struggle to do business. that’s when the visions of the last slain dragon begin to happen to him, which would indicate massive changes within the world of magic, since the birth of “great magic” will take place. Will she be able to find more work or will it all be gone once and for all? Can she figure out what changes might happen if there was a “great magic”? who exactly is the last dragon slayer?
