Jeff Shaara, the son of an Italian immigrant, was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1952. The boy grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. in 1974, jeff graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminology from florida state university. At the age of 16, he operated a rare coin business, initially out of his home and later in a retail store. He later moved to Tampa, where he became one of Florida’s best-known coin and precious metal dealers. Jeff’s father, known as Michael Shaara, died in 1988. when the movie called “gettysburg” was released in 1993, based on his father’s novel, called “the killer angels”, he approached jeff and they persuaded him to continue his father’s story or find a person who could write history. prequel and sequel to the novel, the killer angels. this was after the critical and commercial success of the film. after much thought and considerable soul-searching, he decided to give it a try to tackle the project himself. his decision led to difficult in several ways. the challenges he encountered were because he had no previous writing experience.

The novel entered the New York Times bestseller list and stayed there for about fifteen weeks. Critics across the country praised Jeff’s writing ability and the book. The novel received the “Boyd Award,” which is the prestigious award from the American Library Association. Everyone, including Jeff himself, was shocked. The novel focuses on the events that occurred between 1858 and 1863 during the civil wars in the United States and ends with two armies marching on Gettysburg. Jeff copied his father’s approach from him in that he focused on a senior officer of both armies that included Lt. Col. Joshua Chamberlain, Lt. gene thomas, eldest gen. Winfield Scott Cock and General Robert E. leeward. he describes the emotional drama of soldiers fighting old friends of his. Author Shaara also accurately reveals historical details, including strategies, troop movements, and tactical combat situations. The novel shows that General Hancock fears the day he will shoot his old friend named Lewis in the Confederate Army. In 2011, Jeff was recognized twice by his former Florida State University. In September of the same year, Jeff was inducted into the “College of Criminology Hall of Fame”.
