Jen Turano is the best-selling American author of romantic, historical, and Christian novels. She graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in apparel and textiles, then pursued a career in management for nearly a decade before deciding to write full-time after the birth of her child. Turano is famous for being the author of the Ladies of Difference series, which premiered in 2012, when the first novel in the series, A Change of Fortune, was published through Bethany House. the second book in the series a very peculiar circumstance published in 2013 was selected among the top ten romance books by the book list in 2013.
Torano grew up in St. clairsville, a small town next to wheeling, wva. the author describes her childhood as idyllic and for this reason she spent most of her childhood ice skating, boating, reading books and playing with her friends in her tree house. she describes her time in high school as fabulous, as she would roam the halls with her “gang of eight lovely girls”, all of whom are still friends today. she was often worried as she was the secretary of her class for a period of four years and then became the vice president of the student council during her junior year and president during her senior year. after finishing her high school studies, turano advanced to the next stage in university life, where she completed a degree in clothing and textiles. she was also one of the members of the alpha phi sorority. After her college studies, Turano set out to conquer the world of fashion and discovered that fashion was not as glamorous as she thought.

turano met her husband while working in a department store in new york and the two were married nine months later. More than two decades later, the couples move on with their lives supporting each other and caring for their son, Dominic. Turano’s writing career began unexpectedly when her son was in the third grade. Bored by a series they had been reading together, mom and son set out to write a book of their own. the supposed book they were going to write quite strange, full of the smelly beast that had the mendacity to eat children, dominic proclaimed that the story was perfect, and that was how long it took turano to start her writing career. A Change of Fortune is the first novel for ladies of distinction. The story features Lady Eliza Summer disguised as Miss Eliza Sumner. she has lost her boyfriend, her father, also her faith and what she has left to cling to is her fortune. She is focused on finding the man who wiped out what she had left in the world, her fortune, and all she wants is to get her money back and return to London. then there is the handsome mr. Hamilton Beckett, the catch of the season and a man who has all the eyes of New York City on him. he has no plans to marry sooner, especially now that he has his hands full to ensure the business keeps going while he raises his two children alone. Eliza’s relentless attempts to get her money back accidentally put her in front of Hamilton’s path. The unraveling of a common enemy causes Eliza and Hamilton to form alliances, and soon Eliza has a whole team of people helping her. Eliza’s resolve to trust no one gradually weakens after everyone around her offers her a helping hand, leaving her to wonder if life has more important things to offer than her independence and her fortune. When Eliza and Hamilton’s best laid plans come crashing down, it will take them a long time to realize that God may have had better plans for them all along, after all.
The first book in the series is a fast-paced adventure that is well drawn to strike a perfect balance between romance and humor. It will catch you from the first page and especially when the paths of the hero and the hero cross. Mr. Hamilton is like a knight in shining armor, he is an endearing character, a widower with two children to take care of and in need of a woman to love. He is quite the gentleman, and you will love the relationship that develops between him and Eliza. on the other hand, he is eliza. she is an independent woman, a woman of steel who is not afraid to face her problems. You’ll love her brave and adventurous nature, and it’s amazing to watch her travel from London to the US while she’s disguising herself as someone else.

In the second book of Jen Turano’s Distinguished Ladies series, we meet Miss Arabella Beckett, a woman with only one mission in life: to help America’s oppressed women. she is a supporter of the women’s suffrage movement and attends conferences and rallies across the country. During one of her trips, she manages to help out a lady in need, but this act of kindness lands both women in trouble more than they could handle. An independent woman, Ella Arabella is reluctant to accept the fact that she needs the help of a rude and prejudiced knight in shining armor.
