John D Macdonald was an American author of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and thriller books best known for his Travis McGee series. He was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, but later moved to Europe in his pursuit of adventure and photography. He studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse, and at Harvard University. john also served in the army during world war ii.
john d macdonald’s writing career began with the first publication his wife sent to the squire while he was still in the military. From writing short stories, John has gone on to create several other novels and is credited for his Travis McGee series. He has received numerous awards for his writing, including the 1980 United States National Book Award.

the deep blue good
the deep blue good is the first piece in his travis mcgee series. this is the story of mcgee who is wary of credit cards, political parties, retirement benefits, television and mortgages. his is an individual who lives for the time when he earns money when there is a need for the same. John introduces a antagonism between Travis and Junior Allen. Allen has an animal lust when it comes to power, but Travis is an idealist which creates a huge difference between these two characters. McGee is set to help a friend recover a lost fortune while Allen is panning for gold. Trevor is requested by his current lady to offer a helping hand to his girlfriend. his father had been convicted of moving valuables during the world war period from a combat area.
then, allen realizes that there is a treasure somewhere and, motivated by greed and malice, he approaches the girl and takes everything from her. what’s worse is the fact that he goes out to cripple her beyond the point where he was before taking advantage of her, where he takes advantage of her desperation and benefits from the girl’s treasures. trevor walks in to correct the mess that had been created and the antagonism between the two characters is well seen as the two move on to accomplish their missions, which are completely different from each other. things are not going well for mcgee as along the way he experiences numerous problems and surprises that almost make it impossible for him to achieve his goal. Though Travis lives a free life, he seems to have a sympathetic heart for such cases.

john d macdonald has a great way of showing the characters in his story and most importantly how he incorporates different characters and creates an amazing piece.
nightmare in pink
nightmare in pink is the second piece in the travis mcgee series. Trevor is not a policeman or a private detective, but a salvage consultant who lives on a boat. he has a simple life where he looks for money only when he needs it and then proceeds to enjoy what he has earned until he finishes it. mcgee has the base of operations as his, but now he decides to go to new york. while travis was in the service he had a friend named mike who also had a little sister who is now a grown woman. Things have gone wrong for Mike’s sister after her husband is killed in a robbery. It is as a result of this tragic event that he is called from Florida. the heist looks like any other until something unusual happens. they find a considerable amount of cash in her apartment after her murder. the facts seem to point to the possibility of embezzlement prior to her death.
A series of events follow these incidents that signal instances of conspiracy, action, and romance in the course of the story. Though Travis is guilt-ridden after what happened to his friend Mike, he still is after unraveling a mass of evil he discovers has been going on in town. the deeper he digs, the more he finds about the rot that he has taken over the community and that also endangers his life.
The author is good at exposing many ills that happen in society in narrative form. his plot of things seems to represent what’s going on in today’s society to a great extent.

a purple place to die
A Purple Place to Die is the third installment in his Travis McGee series. Travis has been called to Arizona by a beautiful lady to help with a case that involves recovering some money that has been stolen by a man she is supposed to be divorcing. Things, however, take a turn for the worse when she dies before Travis can fully help her fulfill her wish. this, however, does not stop him as he continues his mission despite his absence.
mcgee is pressured by the fact that he was angry about his potential client being shot and not even about the money. after she is shot, he rushes to the police to report the case, and upon returning he finds no one at the scene, something that angers him and pushes him to seek justice for the murdered client. it’s a journey filled with instances of relationships gone wrong, small-town intrigue, and other surprises that come to complicate the search for him. Throughout the story, McGee brings up a lot about women and the nature of human beings.
He joins forces with the police as they try to connect the facts and get to the motive for this murder, the case he had been called on, and the disappearance of his client’s body. is an exciting story with a turn of events that builds suspense and fear at points.
is a story that has been well planned and puts the events in such a way that the reader can easily follow them. his description of the characters is vivid and suitable for making an amazing story.
