Born in December 1938 in Tufnell Park, North London, the prolific British crime writer John Harvey became famous for his jazz-influenced Charlie Resnick novels. he is the author of more than 100 books, which were published under different names, as well as poetry and scripts for television and radio. during his childhood his father, who worked in the administrative section of shell mex, took him to a bookstore in kentish town to buy copies of biggles. When he was five, Charlie loved reading Alison Utley’s rabbit books. he moved to the quiet city of nottingham in the 1960s. in 2009 he received an honorary degree (doctor of letters) from the university of nottingham. He taught English for over 12 years, was educated at Goldsmiths College, London, and taught literature, theater and film at various universities across the country before deciding to pursue a writing career full-time. His move to writing came almost by accident, when a writer asked him to help him out, and he soon found himself churning out westerns and more novels. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Rachel Chaplin, a social worker assigned to a family caught up in child abuse claims, with whom he has had a nice professional relationship and wants to have a more personal relationship with her. but he first wants to find the killer as soon as possible.
