joy fielding is a canadian writer and actress who was born and raised in the city of toronto, ontario. Originally named Joy Tepperman, she changed her last name to Fielding in honor of the 18th century novelist, Henry Fielding.
joy fielding had always loved writing and said it was easy for her. He submitted his first story to Jack and Jill magazine, though it was rejected. the plays she wrote as a young woman were also marginally successful and were performed by her and her friends for a captive audience of parents. She continued to write throughout her teens and by the time she graduated from high school, she had decided to become a writer.

joy studied english literature at the university of toronto in 1966 before turning to acting full time. He continued to participate in theater throughout his college career, acting in more than twenty productions at the University of Toronto. She later moved to Los Angeles, where she found a role in an episode of Gun-Smoke, a western drama.

The 1982 novel Kiss Mom Goodbye was one of Joy’s first mainstream publications. is a psychological thriller about a divorced couple’s child custody battle. The heroine of the story is Donna Cressy, the loving mother of Adam and Sharon. A victim of mental abuse by Ella Cressy’s husband, Ella Victor, Donna files for divorce and custody of the children.
Traumatized by her abuse, Donna is noted to be acting strangely, raising concerns during the discovery process. several people testify that she has been behaving strangely ever since she married victor. Despite this, Ella Donna manages to gain custody of her children, although Victor is allowed to visit on weekends.
donna and her two children later move in with dr. Segal, Donna’s new boyfriend, and Ella’s daughter Annie. One night, under the guise of a normal weekend visit, Victor kidnaps Adam and Sharon.
horrified, donna spirals into a deep depression and her strange behavior returns. At her lowest point, she receives a phone call from Victor, whom she tracks to California.
Upon finding his sons, Victor nearly killed them, but with the help of Dr. segal, he can escape with his children and survive.

The plot of the novel revolves around Jane Whittaker, who, at the beginning of the novel, is in a grocery store. she suffers from amnesia and cannot remember any details about herself. her name, her past, or any personal details about her life are erased from her mind. Despite this, she can remember some arbitrary things, such as the mathematical formula used to find the length of the hypotenuse of a triangle.

In her bloodstained blue dress, she finds over ten thousand dollars in cash. Terrified, she heads to the local police station where she is reunited with a charming man who claims to be her husband.
the man, dr. Whittaker takes a confused Jane back to his suburban home to try to recover from the trauma. joy can’t help but feel a terrifying premonition that something truly terrible is about to unfold.

See Jane Run was the first of Joy’s writings to be adapted for television, hitting the nation’s screens in 1995 with director John Patterson. it followed in 1997 don’t tell me secrets and don’t cry now. ten years later, her 1983 novel, The Other Woman, was made into a television movie of the same name.
joy fielding believes the reason it’s so popular with readers is the way they can interact with its characters and stories. Her characters are so repeatable and realistic that they can understand what each of the women is going through in the novels and more clearly identify with them in one way or another.
When asked about the inspiration for his characters, he acknowledges that his main characters are shaped from various aspects of his own personality, even though their individual stories are very different from his own life experiences.
With the level of detail in her novels, they can take a long time to write, Joy says it can take over eight months of writing to bring a novel to fruition, and around a year to fully produce a finished novel. when she forms a basic idea, she sketches out a basic outline. It may take her a few tries to get an outline that really works, and it’s easy to get sidetracked at first, but when the first half of the novel is done, the second half writes itself.
despite the detail and level of precision in her novels, joy fielding says she doesn’t enjoy research and prefers to allow her books to deal with subjects and professions she personally understands: teaching, ATMs, housework, etc. .. “That’s why I write fiction. I firmly believe that if you want facts, read non-fiction; one reads fiction to discover the truth.”
