I’ve always loved pen and ink drawings for as long as I can remember. and I have been offering some of those drawings as free coloring pages on my website for years and I loved hearing the stories of how churches used them in their Sunday school classes and how women used them with their children and grandchildren. As I watched my collection of drawings grow… I kept thinking about the possibility of publishing them as a coloring book.

It had been on my heart for quite a while to create an inspirational faith-based coloring book. I envisioned it having pictures that a mom would enjoy coloring with her children. I wanted to give her the opportunity to not only be creative with color but give her a way to share and talk about God’s Word as they colored together.
I had been offering free coloring pages on my website for years…and had several pen and ink “morning doodles” in my art journal that I thought would fit the bill. I decided to self-publish simple blessings in the late summer of 2014 so I could take it with me to the fall/winter art shows we were doing at the time. I didn’t know that in a matter of a few months… adult coloring books would become all the rage and to my surprise, simple blessings rose to the top 100 best selling books on amazon for several weeks!

what amazes me is that god already knew! he is the one who pushed and encouraged me to create this book even though I was told it was probably a waste of time. he already knew that my husband was going to have back problems that would not allow us to continue doing art exhibitions and he would need another source of income. he already knew the plans he had for me…and for us…plans to take care of us months before coloring books became popular and the need arose. all she had to do was trust him…trust him enough to step out in faith and self-publish a coloring book in hopes of encouraging others in their faith…even when others thought she was crazy. And I’m glad I did!
So I leave you with this question: Is God calling you to do something today…that without even knowing it…could impact your life tomorrow…and be a blessing to others down the road?
