I’m teaching bible basics to tender hearts this year, and one of the requirements is to learn a bible song book, and I kept dragging my feet because I didn’t have a good song, and honestly I wasn’t sure there is one that I would like that I could easily share with the parents of my daughters. but, after finally accepting it and discovering a good Bible lesson for this, I found a song that I liked.

and then I put it on my daughter who looked at me like I was crazy and clearly it wasn’t as good as I thought so I’m also going to share with you several more books of Bible songs that you can find on youtube and easily play with your Sunday school class.

the books of the biblical song that I chose

listened to over a dozen songs and liked this one, it’s relatively fun, the video wasn’t randomly flashy (which is a migraine trigger for me) and the singing didn’t bother me.

I played it to the girls and told them we had to come up with moves for the song, and they helped me brainstorm the actions. not particularly brilliant actions, so far we only have ideas for the old testament.

I had the artist take pictures of all the different moves for me, so I could edit it and share it with parents (much later than I intended).

In case you’re wondering, if you ask a group of 6-year-olds to help you think of moves, you may end up with a lot of very similar actions (you’ll get a look at the end of this post).

now, if you don’t like my song, since the artist didn’t like it…

I know, everyone has different tastes in songs, so here are some of the others I found but opted not to use for a few different reasons.

songs kjv version: this one wouldn’t embed for some reason, I think the only reason I didn’t pick this one is because it had the random verse at the beginning and end, and for some reason I liked the music it I chose more.

I didn’t like the song that much, but I could totally see why you would pick this one. however, it can be a bit quick to create moves with it.

I felt like it might be harder to learn since it’s rap and there’s not as much melody to hold on to. and had the choir too often for my purposes.

another, which was nothing wrong, just a different taste in music.

I think this particular video combined two songs to create the whole bible, because you can hear where random bits of the song were cut to make it one song.

random shirt swaps are a bit fun, but might have distracted my girls who are easily distracted.

this one is a bit slower, and probably would have worked just fine, but for some reason I wasn’t thrilled with this one.

old testament books only

When I was a kid, I learned the song only for the New Testament, which is part of why I never learned the Old Testament books in order.

this is too flashy for me, it triggers my migraine.

This almost sounds like a song I learned part of once, because when I start singing the Old Testament, this is what I do by default.

I think this song was on a CD I bought for my kids when they were very young.

let’s talk about hand movements for Bible song books

now there are many people with their own books of the hand movements of the bible song. I have vague memories of some hand movements I learned, but nothing solid.

I took the song to my daughters and asked them to brainstorm actions. it’s a great way to engage kids and also help them remember the hand movements, because they’re involved.

However, if you don’t have the skill, or want to present the moves as a fiat accompli, then I liked these bible hand moves I found later. you know, having planned the whole old testament.

I used these moves to occasionally prompt girls to choose hand moves when they were about to say a small variation of the same move for the third time in a row.

We’ll be practicing our moves, and in a few months we’ll be performing our song in front of the whole troop at the awards court.
