linwood barclay is a canada-based author, humorist and columnist. he has published books in the fiction and non-fiction genres. He wrote a popular humor column for the Toronto Star, Canada’s best-selling newspaper, regularly until he announced his retirement in 2008.
linwood barclay was born in 1955 in connecticut, united states. His father was a commercial artist, whose works appeared in Life, Look, and the Saturday Evening Post (before photography took over). When Linwood was 4 years old, her father accepted a position with an advertising agency in Canada.

Linwood’s formative years were spent in Canada, where he worked odd jobs such as helping to manage a cabin complex and a trailer park. Linwood attended Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, earning a B.A. (honors) in English.
He got his first big break as a writer when he got a job at a small Ontario daily newspaper called the Peterborough Examiner. after working for a few years with the newspaper, he joined the toronto star, canada’s largest newspaper. At the Toronto Star, Linwood held various positions including deputy city editor, life section editor, etc., before settling for the paper’s humor columnist in 1993.
was the toast of the newspaper, in this position and remained in this position until 2008, when he wrote his last column and announced his retirement, to dedicate his time exclusively to writing books. While working as a humor columnist for the Toronto Star, Linwood wrote 4 books in the nonfiction genre, including an autobiography called The Last Resort, which was shortlisted in the humor category of the Stephen Leacock Medal.

met his future wife, neetha, who was working as a kindergarten teacher in trent. They live in Ontario with their two children, Spencer and Paige. Linwood was one of the lucky few to have good mentors. Linwood met the famous Canadian novelist, Margaret Laurence at Trent, who had a decisive influence on Linwood’s career as a writer.
He also met and became close to kenneth miller, who under the pseudonym ross macdonald, has written famous mystery series starring detective lew archer. These two talented novelists guided Linwood through his early years as a budding writer. 2004 was a watershed year in the life of the budding novelist, when he launched a mystery series, where he created a beloved character named Zack Walker.
The first bad move in the book was followed by more zack walker thrillers like bad guys, lone wolf and stone rain. Then, in 2007, Linwood published her critically acclaimed standalone novel No Time for Goodbye, which met with international success. was translated into 40 languages.
In Germany, this novel caused a sensation and sold more than half a million copies. No Time for Goodbye was nominated for the Ellis Author Award, the Barry Award, and was also shortlisted for Best Novel Written by International Thriller Writers. eric mccormack has also opted for no time for goodbye for a movie.
The synopsis of the book is quite chilling; cynthia archer (the protagonist), one night, at the age of 14, she discovers that her family has disappeared. the house is empty. quiet and creepy…and no idea where her parents and her brother have gone.
The mystery begins to unravel 25 years later, at a breakneck pace. The next year, in 2008, Linwood toasted success, with another bestseller Too Close to Home, earning Linwood Barclay the Author Ellis Award for Best Novel in 2009. Some of his novels have been chosen for conversion in movies. Some of the characters in Linwood’s books have struck a chord with readers.

On the home front there’s unease, with the exploits of zack’s kids. Zack, the tough guy, tries to make his world work by attacking and god save the bad guys who get in his way. linwood barclay has averaged more than one novel per year since 2004.
