lucy was divorced from her husband, carl boman, and she was awarded custody of the children. theirs had not been an easy marriage, but from the details that emerge, it is clear that lucy had already put her family through a lot. all of her actions show that she cared little how others felt, and it’s heartbreaking that she chose to take another woman’s life to have her baby. Lucy’s ex-husband spoke about the sacrifices he had made for the family only to find his wife lying, engaging in various improper acts. when you think about it, who would leave a woman dying and go parade a stolen baby as their own? The author also shows how Bobbie’s family and community grieve after her death. this story was heartbreaking and, at the same time, sad. It’s amazing that someone would go to the extreme of killing another woman just to have her baby. Aside from the innocent life lost, Bonnie and Lisa’s families were greatly affected by this case. The author learned a lot about Lisa from her ex-husband and her mother. Lucy had shown patterns of lying and manipulation, and all of this could be associated with her dysfunctional upbringing. could anything have been done to save lucy’s situation before things got this far? Was it okay for Lucy’s mother and ex-husband to let her roam the streets when they knew how damaged she was?

Murder in Heartland is a direct account of the senseless murder of Bobbie at the hands of a woman who wanted her baby. While this case captured the headlines, it still sounds incredible to most who read this book. it is disturbing that such disturbed souls live among us, and can act on their psychotic impulses whenever they wish. This book was published before the case was concluded and did not include Lucy’s much later confession. the story is captivating though, and the good thing is that it gives a good background on all the people involved. If you’re curious to see how murder stories unfold in real life, this book is for you.
