Born in Sydney on July 2, 1974, Matthew John Reilly began life with no interest in reading or writing. It was only after reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Lord of the Flies” that he realized how much he can enjoy it.
Deciding to write about suspense and mystery came from realizing how much budget is needed to finish a movie that is really enjoyable; while you just need to use your considerable imagination to formulate scenes that are much more satisfying to the readers. his favorite book of all time is jurassic park because it keeps you glued to the story and keeps you in suspense.

breakthrough
As any aspiring author has come to understand, the hardest part is breaking through and getting noticed as someone worthy of attention. reilly solved this problem by self-publishing his “contest” book with 1,000 copies sold in bookstore after bookstore.
This first book is unique in that it is Reilly’s only science fiction work to be about seven people who join a survival contest to the death and only have one champion. It is set in the New York State Library which is fabricated in Reilly’s mind. in one of those bookstores, angus & the robertson pitt street mall store; Cate Paterson, Managing Editor of Pan Macmillan Australia, bought a copy and thus sealed Reilly’s fate by offering him a two-book deal.
which triggered his next novel “ice station” to be in australia alone; it sold over 170,000 copies. “Ice Station” is a foray into a hellish situation at an Antarctic ice station by a team of daring mariners who found an unidentified metal that is hidden under ice sheets and has been there for over 100 million of years.

the rest as they say is history, reilly went on to write more and more bestsellers including temple, pageant, area 7, scarecrow, hover car racer, seven ancient wonders, the six holy stones, the five more warriors big and scarecrow and the army of thieves.
the film rights to his “flying car race” were acquired by walt disney and paramount did the same with his “ice station”. ABC US decided to use their Jack West Jr. series for a television series and thus bought the rights to the book series. Reilly’s books have been published in around 17 countries in 14 different languages.

Tournament: Set in 1546, this is a high-stakes contest for a king’s champion told from the point of view of a 13-year-old English princess. shows how a future queen is made and molded so that she will be hard as nails and have a constitution of iron. it’s also about staying alive no matter the cost.

however, reilly’s life isn’t just about writing. she periodically browses second-hand bookstores and looks for originals, novels and hardcovers. she collects these finds and enjoys them not only for their stories but also for the value she knows they will have.
It also collects a variety of eccentric movie memorabilia like a golden idol from the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, a Star Wars collectible of a life-size statue of Han Solo frozen in carbonite, a full-size Jango Fett helmet complete set and a delorean dmc-12 that is part of the back to the future set. Reilly is an avid fan of Hollywood blockbusters and has plans to turn his books into movies with him as director.
In fact, there are seven scripts he’s written that are gathering dust and waiting for their moment to shine. her lovely black labrador “dido” makes a break from her writing fun and entertaining. he plays golf when he can find the time and of course watches movies that catch his eye. the only sad thing in reilly’s life is that his wife committed suicide after he wrote scarecrow and army of thieves. he returned home from a tour to discover that his wife was gone and he was a widower at the age of 37.

She loves going to schools and speaking in front of students to inspire them with her passion for writing. however, fan requests are out of luck, as she does not read or consider any ideas sent to her asking her to use them for her next book.
According to him, you should prevent someone from saying that you plagiarized your work. he has an FAQ page on his site to give his followers his thoughts on how to succeed in the publishing industry. In Reilly’s immortal words, “there is no such thing as an ‘aspiring writer’. you’re a writer period.”
