you had me at hello is the first book in a series with the same name. It introduces us to Ben and Rachel, who met at Manchester University and immediately struck up a strong friendship. because rachel has an honest and strong long distance relationship with her lover rhys, her friend ben hers has nightly hookups with a number of girls, and the two remain best friends.
Ten years later, Rachel is still living in Manchester working as a court reporter, meeting her friends from campus but has broken up with her boyfriend, Rhys. After Ella’s friend Caroline de Ella sees Ben in the library, Rachel runs over in an attempt to greet him. Ella Rachel hasn’t seen or spoken to Ben in ten years. But things have changed a lot for him: Ben is now married and Rachel is now single. When the two run into each other, her old solid friendship returns, along with deep-buried feelings for Rachel that she would never reveal to him.
you had me at hello the prologue is brilliantly done but the opening chapter of the story is brilliant. the author leaves the reader right in the middle of the scene, and it is absolutely gripping. the narrative switches between rachel’s current life and her previous life with ben in college, this is great because the reader gets to know more about the characters and their backstory and learns how the characters’ past experiences have shaped them into the people they are in today. the author’s writing style is brilliant. This is not another muddy romance story; instead, the author gives us a real everyday story with really likeable characters and a satisfying writing style, which is fantastic. the writing itself is sharp, and the cast is so realistic that readers can compare them to people in real life.
the heroine rachel is well written. she has a great sense of humor; she is witty and instantly likeable. the story is told through her narration, and her personality really shines through this narration. on the other hand, ben is a lovely man; You will fall in love with him as you learn more about him through his present and backstory. he also has a good sense of humor. the secondary characters are also a perfect addition to the story. the villains are also well-crafted; They are the kind of people you love to hate. Mhairi Mcfarlane has woven a perfect mix of characters, so that when they come together, there’s drama, clashes, flirtation, friendship, and loads of laughs. his writing style flows like butter on a hot knife. his empathy for his main character, his wit, his kangaroo ability to jump between past and present will keep you hooked at all times.

Yet despite all these traits, and even though we already know what he did to Anna many years ago, we can’t help but love him more. Unfortunately, he surrounds himself with jerks and phonies who are great for Lawrence and the school. James and Lawrence have been best friends since high school. lawrence is a complete bastard, a pig without compassion or morals. Despite the humor and fun of this story, I’m Watching You is a story that deals with the issue of bullying and its effects, something that everyone has experienced at some point in their lives. mhairi mcfarlane has expertly shown how bullying can cause long-term damage to a person. the story is well balanced and the characters, both main and secondary, are wonderful. dry humor adds another layer to the story and doesn’t take away from the emotional theme of the story.
