“the girl from the kommandant” is the first novel in the series “the girl from the kommandant” and was published in 2007. emma bau is nineteen years old and has been married for less than a month when the nazi tanks arrived in poland, his homeland. After only a few days, Jacob (Emma’s husband) has to go underground, and she is imprisoned in the crumbling Jewish ghetto. During the night, the Resistance is able to smuggle Emma out. she is transported to krysia (jacob’s aunt in krakow, who is catholic), and assumes the identity of anna lipowski, who is a gentile woman.
Her uncertain situation becomes more complex when she is introduced to Kommandant Richwalder (a man who happens to be a high-ranking Nazi official) and hired to be his assistant. Her resistance prompts her to access details about the Nazi occupation of Poland, using her position as Richwalder’s assistant.
To do so means you will have to retract your wedding vows and compromise your own safety. this so she can help jacob’s cause. As the nasty war progresses, so does her relationship with Richwalder. it all builds up to a climax in which she will have to risk her own double life that she is living, but the life of the ones she loves.
here is a great romance novel that has a historical background as a setting. fans found this to be a brilliant, must-read novel that can easily be read in one sitting. the engaging plot kept readers hooked on the story and made it difficult for them to put the story down. This is a unique story (especially compared to other WWII novels) filled with love and loyalty during an extreme time in Krakow, Poland.
“The Diplomat’s Wife” is the second novel in the “Commander’s Girl” series and was published in 2008. The main character in this book was a supporting character of “The Commander’s Girl”. marta nederman wonders why she can be so lucky to still be alive, when many have not been so lucky. especially when she should have perished.
The year is 1945, and Marta was lucky to have survived the Nazi prison camp and all the brutality. She meets Paul, who is an American soldier, as he recovers from everything that happened to him. he gives her hope for a future, one that has more happiness. Their plans to meet in London are thwarted when her plane crashes.
marta is devastated and pregnant; She marries a man named Simon, who is a British diplomat and is a caring man. she sees the joys that come with having a family and a home. any chance of a happy life is put in jeopardy when she learns that a communist spy works for British intelligence. the only person who can expose the spy is linked to her own past.

This story has a female main character who is beaten up quite a bit and suffers more than humanly possible, and then is able to become a strong and successful woman by the end of the story. fans of the novel enjoyed this wonderful story and were forced to read until the wee hours of the morning because of how good the book was. the ending breaks the hearts of some readers.
“the ambassador’s daughter” is the third novel in the “the kommandant’s girl” series and was published in 2013. This novel takes place before the events of “the kommandant’s girl”. Margot Rosenthal was brought to the peace conference by her German diplomat father. at first, she resents being trapped in the congested French capital and is seen as the enemy. she considers going back to berlin and stefan (who is the hurt man she was going to marry and doesn’t really know too well these days), she discovers that paris isn’t as bad as she thought.
Being bored and torn between her desire to be free and her duty, she forms some alliances: one with Georg and Krysia. krysia who is a talented musician with a secret to keep and has become acquainted with some radical people. George is a handsome, damaged naval officer who employs Margot; he also makes her question everything she believed to be true as she considered where her loyalties should lie.
This novel focuses more on emotions than on the political changes that took place after the First World War. this is a tense, bittersweet and romantic novel; a great example of why some enjoy reading historical fiction, primarily those that take place around the time of the world wars. Fans of the novel found this to be a realistic story, especially the part where Margot has a hard time accepting what happened to her fiancé after her experiences in the war. These are stories you’ll want to clear your schedule to read, since you won’t have much time for anything else.
