Penny Reid is an American USA Today and New York Times best-selling author, best known for writing several series of novels in the romance genre. Her successful series of novels includes the “Weaving in the City”, “Winston Brothers”, “Hypothesis”, “Rugby” and “Dear Professor” series. Reid made her debut with the 2013 published title “Neanderthal Seeks Humans” and she has never looked back since. she writes quirky, funny and smart romantic comedies that feature fiery heroes and relatable heroines. She made a name for herself with the “Weaving in the City” series of novels which has garnered her critical acclaim and endeared herself to many romance fans around the world. When she’s not writing her novels, she spends her days working as a researcher in the biotech industry. In addition to juggling her full-time career in biotech and writing, she’s also a general craftswoman, seamstress, crocheter, knitter, daughter, wife, and mother of three, and a thought ninja. however, she has never taken writing as a career, as she thinks of it as more of a source of enjoyment, a kind of hobby that she likes to do in her spare time. She’s also a big time management advocate and uses an authoring wizard to manage her email, schedule, and format, among other tasks. Since she can type 1,000 words per hour and doesn’t watch TV, she can produce 8,000 words per week without breaking a sweat.
Most of Penny Reid’s heroines are skilled knitters who are members of a knitting club. Reid claims that she is literally a member of almost every knitting club in the world, as she has traveled extensively while conducting her biotech research. she always tries to find the local knitting group whenever she visits a town and sits down to sew and knit with new people. Having attended numerous crocheters/knitter gatherings from Alabama, New Hampshire, Birmingham, New Zealand and London, she has become one of the most knowledgeable people in knitting club culture. for penny the knitting club is a place where women offer each other help, love and support without worrying about their deepest secrets becoming public knowledge, even if they drink a lot of wine. Having spent a lot of time in knitting groups, she has developed some writing quirks, the most interesting of which is a tendency to make up words like manlicious, machismo-asshattery, friendscort, and arousurbed. while the knitting club is a major theme in her novels, she draws much of her inspiration from her everyday experiences with real people. the biggest strength of hers that has made her novels stand out is that she’s not afraid to make her characters flawed. reid shows that a person can be lovable with all his faults and that love is perfect when one finds that person who loves him for his peculiarities.
Penny has always wanted to become a writer since she was eight years old when she wrote stories that she read to her mother. however, at that age she thought that becoming an author was similar to becoming a mermaid and thus was not something that she thought she would ever achieve. During her last years of school, she switched from reading short stories to reading books like Jane Austen, which she found to have a smart and cunning character, with better social commentary and fantastical but believable stories. however, although she loved to read, she never got around to writing until she was well into her adult life and worked as a researcher. in fact, she stumbled into writing when a friend of hers lamented that finding romance novels with intelligent heroines was next to impossible. Ella Reid bet her that she could write about a likeable, relatable and intelligent heroine if she could ask her out to dinner if she was successful in finding her. her friend loved the soap opera and took her out for lobster and steak dinner. Three months after writing the novel, she thought that maybe she could do something with her writing and she sent her manuscript of “Neanderthal Seeks Humans” to a publisher. she was surprised to receive an offer for publication and the book was released in 2013 to rave reviews, critical acclaim and commercial success. she has never looked back since.

penny reid’s novels usually have as their theme the love story of a man who has had feelings for a woman for years. As for the heroines, they are fantastically random, hilarious, smart, quirky characters who would be some of the best of friends. however, the heroines have to deal with the usual challenges of life, such as losing their jobs, financial problems, and relationship problems. women are not normally the type to get carried away by men, no matter how beautiful they are. Having strong-willed and independent natures, they keep men at bay, leading to an explosive romance when they finally give in to the advances of irresistible men.
