This also means there are more potential benefits for you as an eBook publisher.
I have been writing and selling books on amazon’s kdp platform for a few years.
I’m not Steven King, but I’ve learned a thing or two that I’d love to share with you.
The biggest thing that changed my book sales was promotion.
Having an ebook promotion strategy is crucial to your success as a self-published author.
You can upload your books and wait, but the right promotion techniques will get you immediate downloads and sales.

reddit is your friend
330 million people use reddit. if you’ve ever been to the website, you know there’s a subreddit for everything.
and I mean everything. 😉
but in our case, we search the sections of the website related to desktop publishing to promote our book.
I’ve gotten over a thousand downloads in a single day by promoting my kindle books on reddit. remains the core of my amazon book promotion plan.
but here’s the trick.
you need to have an active free promotion for most of these subreddits to accept your work.
visit your kdp control panel and select the promotion and advertising button.
then under “run a price promotion”, click the free promotion option.
You can make your book free for up to five days every 90 days.
I’ve heard many people say that more than three days won’t produce great results, and I have to agree.
Usually after the third day, downloads slow down considerably.
From my personal experience, weekends are also a good time to promote your book for free.
but try these strategies yourself to find the best results. it’s different for each category and audience.

When tomorrow rolls around and the promotion is live, head over to the following subreddits:
- /r/freeebooks/
- /r/efreebies/
- /r/ebookdeals/
- /r/wroteabook/
- /r/book downloads/
- /r/shamelessplug/
- /r/kindlefreebies/
sign up for an account if you haven’t already and submit your book by creating a post now from the right sidebar.

Each subreddit has its own unique set of rules that you must follow. these include things like including the genre, the author’s name, the promotion date, etc.
after you’ve done this, let’s go to facebook.

don’t underestimate facebook groups
There are literally billions of active users on Facebook each month.
And just like on reddit, there are groups you can find that are specifically about sharing kindle books.
Just look at some of the groups I’m in.
Imagine posting on these every time you publish a book. you would generate many more downloads and sales.
To join these groups, you will obviously need a facebook account. go ahead and sign up if needed.
then type keywords related to kindle and kdp in the top search bar.
select “groups” in the navigation and all groups related to self-publishing will be displayed.
Join as many as you want, there is no limit.
some will automatically approve and others will require verification.
post in these groups once you are approved. the key is to stay active and join the conversations.
some groups may remove you if you just spam their book or promotions. be a productive member and you will be rewarded.
Do you publish non-fiction? if so, the following strategy is for you.
linkedin groups are great too
It should come as no surprise that linkedin is the most used platform by marketers.
is a center for professionals, writers, entrepreneurs and career-oriented people.
this also makes it a great channel to promote your book if you write non-fiction like me 🙂
sign up for a linkedin account if you haven’t already. take the time to create an impressive profile.
Include your experience as a writer, a high-quality photo, and an engaging headline.
then in the “job” dropdown, select “groups”.
will show groups based on your profile, but you can also use the linkedin search bar to find specific groups.
ask to join as many as you want. the more the better!
as I said with facebook groups, the idea is to be a productive member of the group to establish a solid reputation.

more users will refer to your book and trust you if you do this.
When you want to share your writing, just drop a link and ask people to leave their comments.
Now, let’s move on to the last strategy for promoting kdp books.
send your book like crazy
You’ve shared your books on reddit, facebook and linkedin, what’s next?
book promotion websites.
These are sites that allow you to submit your work to be featured on a large email list or on social media.
the best part?
many of them are free!
Sure, there are paid websites if you don’t mind spending around $50, but many of them won’t charge you a dime.
inkitt is one of them.
Not only will they get your book to thousands of readers, but they’ll even offer you a publishing deal if you like it enough. not bad.
inkitt is specifically for novels, but there are others that will accept any specific genre or niche category.
search a ton of these websites and store all their urls in a spreadsheet.
When you go to promote your latest book, send it to all of them. you will surely get one or two that will accept your submission.

is amazon kdp worth it?
I have been self-publishing exclusively through the amazon program for several years.
If you’re wondering whether or not it’s worth selling your books through them, here’s my answer.
and if snoop dogg’s nod doesn’t hint at what i’m saying, then yes, kdp is worth it.
First of all, it’s free. you can’t beat that.
registration is quick and the platform itself is easy to use.
amazon walks you step-by-step through publishing, choosing a royalty rate, and everything in between.
books are usually approved in a few hours and they even give you a ton of resources to format it perfectly.
summarizing all that
Book promotion is easy and self-publishing is a great way to earn passive income, but you need to market yourself.
Start by visiting all the subreddits I mentioned in the first section and submit your book. there will probably be more so take a look at the sidebar or find others.
Join the facebook and linkedin groups to post your book while it’s on a free promotion too.
These three strategies alone would get me up to a thousand downloads per day.
Finally, select a few free promotional websites and offer your book to them. some require it to be free or for a certain price, so do your due diligence.
