As an entrepreneur, real estate investor, and co-founder and chief marketing officer of doorloop, I typically read about 20 new books a year. he’s probably already amassed a collection of over 250 books and even more non-book resources for property managers.

Luckily for you, I’m giving you my list of the 25 best business books for property owners and managers. These helped me invest in real estate, manage properties, and grow my business.

These were one of the first 3 books I read that really helped me change my mindset and start investing in real estate. To this day, I continue to use the resources and knowledge in these books on a weekly basis.
- robert t. Kiyosaki – Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Don’t! This was one of the first books I read many years ago, and it remains an all-time favorite and classic today. This book is excellent for changing the way you think about money and investing. is a must read for everyone, which is why it’s the first book on this list.
- ilyce r. Glink: 100 Questions Every First-Time Home Buyer Should Ask: With Answers From Top Brokers Nationwide. When I personally bought my first home, this book was pure gold for me. there were so many questions I never would have asked if it hadn’t been for this book. I loved it so much I even created my own checklist and quiz when I see a new residential rental property I want to buy.
- eric tyson and ray brown: home buying kit for dummies. This is a monster book with 432 pages filled with everything you will need to know to buy a home. it primarily revolves around the financing and negotiation of an outstanding mortgage and the purchase price. still, there are tons of tips for any homebuyer or investor.

let’s say you’re a novice or an experienced property manager. In that case, these 3 books will help you grow your business, create repeatable processes and procedures, and make more money.
- nolo: Every Homeowner’s Guide to Property Managementnolo is known for its high-quality books, and this one is no exception. This book is primarily for smaller owners with fewer than 10 units, doing this part-time or as a side job, but others can still learn a thing or two.
- david m greene – buy, rehab, rent, refinance, repeat: the brrrr rental property investment strategy made simplethis is one of the top 3 sellers on amazon right now, and for good reason. When interest rates are historically low, it’s a great time to buy property, renovate it, rent it, get your money out, and earn passive income.
- Jeffrey C. may and connie l. may – the mold survival guide: for your home and for your healthwhen I had mold in my home and rental unit, I bought this book and learned everything I needed to know about mold. includes the different types of mold, how to prevent mold, and how to get rid of it. if you want to get rid of the musty smell and mildew smell buy an ozone generator (i got one from enerzen on amazon). just make sure no one or any animal is on the property when using, also make sure no one enters the property until 1 hour later.

If you’re in the real estate industry, you’ve probably heard of bigger pockets. Maybe read their website, subscribe to their podcast, or watch them on YouTube. either way, they have some of the best content in the industry. They have a 3-part series of books that teach you how to invest in real estate, from buying your first property to managing an entire portfolio. if you’re looking for a complete guide from a to z, here it is.

sales books
The sale is one of the most critical parts of the real estate process. Many people have a bad taste in their mouths when you say that the world sells, but in reality you are selling every time:
- negotiate with your bank for a mortgage or refinance
- negotiate rent and lease terms (and renewals) with your tenant
- negotiate wages with your employees
- negotiate with vendors and subcontractors for renovations, maintenance, repairs or work orders
- sell an investment to a buyer.
so you see, you’re already selling more than you think. These were the 5 most influential books that helped me tremendously over the years.
- jeffery h. gitomer – little red sales book: 12.5 principles of sales greatnessmy first sales book i ever read, it was given to me by a sales guru. I regularly recommend this book for the general generic sales tips every beginning homeowner or property manager should master. If you’re new to sales, start here.
- Jeff Fox: How to Become a RainmakerThis is second on this list because It’s a super small, easy to read book packed with practical advice and 0 fluff. Jeff Fox gets right to the point, teaching you everything he’s learned in his long career in sales, from things to do to mistakes to avoid. You can probably finish this book in under an hour.
- Chris Voss and Tahl Raz: Never Split the Difference: Deal Like Your Life Depends On It one of my all time favorite books by ex fbi hostage negotiator chris voss. he takes you through life or death hostage situations where he got the hostage out alive. he then shows you how to apply the same tactics in business negotiations. I even created a little sales and negotiation checklist that I go through every time I go through a big deal. I still highly recommend buying the book – the list is just a sample of what you’ll get.
- jeb blount – objections: the definitive guide to mastering the art and science of overcoming noteaches you the art of dealing with objections and rejections, devising a game plan, asking for what you want, and identifying attractive leads versus time wasters.
- dan s. Kennedy and Shaun Buck – No B.S. guide to maximum referrals and customer retentiondan kennedy is a sales legend. if you don’t know him, look for his other books. this book gives you ideas for keeping tenants longer, reducing turnover, and getting them to refer their friends.
marketing books
- david newman – do it! Marketing: 77 Instant Action Ideas to Increase Sales, Maximize Profits, and Crush the CompetitionI finished this book with so many highlights and ideas that it transformed one of my businesses. I loved that the author gives you a lot of space to write notes and run workshops within the book. owners, get out your pen when you read this!
- jason fried – rework – a better, faster, easier way to succeed in businessjason fried is the founder from 37signals and one of the most popular project management software called basecamp. he gives tons of business advice on how to grow your company from $0 to hundreds of millions in revenue. it’s more of a generic business book, but it’s still useful for property management.
- robert bly – the copywriter’s handbook: a step-by-step guide to writing copy that sells Copywriting is one of those skills that only gets better with practice. As a property manager, it will help you write compelling online listings, add lease clauses to your lease, or write emails for your tenants.
- David Bitton: Marketing Secrets & ; automating your legal practicethis list would not be complete without my own best-seller that I published. Although it was written for the legal industry, most of the advice still applies to a real estate rental business. you’ll learn how to build systems, get more customers, and advertise your business online.
customer service books
- ken blanchard and sheldon bowles: raving fans: a revolutionary approach to customer servicethis book is so crucial that we at doorloop make every new team member read this book. will teach you how to provide the most incredible service your customer has ever seen.
- tony hsieh – delivering happinesstony was the CEO of zappos and pioneered the first site of e-commerce with free returns online. The book is about bringing happiness throughout his property management business, from his team to his tenants. if everyone is happy, your profits will skyrocket.
management & leadership books
- ken blanchard: the one minute manager meets the monkeythis book is so important that every manager in our company gets a crash course in it. It’s a super easy and quick read, and I recommend giving every employee in your company a copy. Do you have a problem with employees asking you for help with every question when he knows they can do it themselves? Isn’t it fun when you’re not available? miraculously they discover it themselves! this book will teach everyone to work more independently without asking for help 100 times a day.
- jocko willink: extreme ownership (how navy seals lead and win former commander of the navy seals, jocko willink (and one of the baddest people around), takes you through his time as a navy seal with personal stories of their battles. the stories will make you sweat and keep you reading until the end. he applies the life principles he has learned about leadership and decision making from the battlefield to the boardroom.
time management books
- david allen and james fallow: getting things done: the art of productivity without stressthis is one of the books that i can say led to my success over the years. I use many ideas from this book every day, including offloading my thoughts into a notepad, scheduling blocks of time on my calendar, and prioritizing my tasks using the ABC method.
- 99u and jocelyn K. glei: manage your day to day: create your routine, find your focus and sharpen your creative minda great book from the creative team at behance. learn to focus on your most important task and develop good habits and routines.
- kevin kruse: 15 secrets successful people know about time managementa short read that provides practical information tips on time management without all the fluff of other books.
