ransom riggs biography
Ransom Riggs was born in 1979 on a farm in Maryland. He soon moved with his family to Englewood, Florida where he grew up. He loved entertainment from a very young age when he would write short stories and make short movies, as well as take tons of photos with his camera.
Some of his earliest fantasy inspirations were his Philip Pullman Dark Materials and the Chronicles of Narnia. he attended pine view school for the gifted after which he went to kenyon university in rural ohio where he got his degree in english literature after which he went to film school and got a masters in fine arts arts from the university of southern california.
after his degree in film, he tried to get a job in the business, however, he was unsuccessful. he so he started out as a mental floss blogger and writing screenplays. If anyone says blogging isn’t fruitful, author Ransom Riggs proved them wrong as his blog on Mental Floss led him to write a book called The Sherlock Holmes Handbook, which accompanied the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie.
he got this job through quirk books, a small publisher that knew of his work for mental floss and wanted him to write a book about sherlock holmes. Her next project turned out to be her biggest yet, with the famous Ransom Riggs books for young adults. She wrote the book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which became the first in a new series. the book grew out of her love for old photos she saw at flea markets while browsing with her grandmother. In 2009 she found a box of old snapshots at the Rose Bowl Swap Meet in Pasadena with photos that would become the basis of the book.
At first, he wanted to create a book of Halloween pictures, each accompanied by a few rhyming poems, however, Jason Rekulak, the publisher of Quirky Books in Philadelphia, gave him the idea to use them for a novel. The story is told from Jacob Portman’s point of view. He’s a 16-year-old boy in Florida who kept hearing old tales from his grandfather about growing up on an island near Wales in a school with strange abilities. eventually, he began to believe that these stories were more or less true. Ransom Riggs’ first book in the series immediately landed on the bestseller list.

The book was initially written for adults, but the publisher realized that young adults would also enjoy reading it. Therefore, it was soon classified as a young adult story and ranked on the shelves of Barnes and Nobles as such. the photos are quite creepy in the book, and this appealed to older children. everyone wanted to read the book with those strange photos. at first, ransom riggs only had a few photos, however, when he started working on his book, he contacted many collectors who would help him by giving or selling him snapshots. so he also learned a lot about the world of snapshot collecting.
Reading the ransom riggs books in order is quite easy as he has four books written so far and another two are in preparation for future publication. While the initial series was meant to be a trilogy, the fourth book begins a new trilogy again with Jacob Portman, who now returns home to Florida.
The book A Map of the Days, the fourth in Miss Peregrine’s quirky children’s series can be read after the initial trilogy, or as a stand-alone book as Jacob is now on new adventures with his friends in America. also, for the first time, some of the photos in the book will be in color. the conference of the birds continues the story from where a map of days left off. this is the book that also has a certain love interest. Author Ransom Riggs is married to Taheref Mafi, the author of a young adult supernatural series called Tear Me Apart. They both live in Los Angeles with a little daughter.
